Henry Morgan “H.M.” Nix, Jr.

Henry Morgan “H.M.” Nix, Jr., 90, of Beaumont, passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Calder Woods, in Beaumont. He was born on November 28, 1926, in Beaumont, to Lillian and Henry Nix, Sr. Henry was a United States Navy Veteran, having served in World War II. After the war, he attended Baylor University in Waco where he met his wife of sixty-five years, Mary Jo Meadows Nix. The couple returned to Beaumont in 1949 where Henry began his career in the banking industry. He retired after forty-two years from Texas Commerce Bank. Henry was elected to the Board of Commissioners of the Port of Beaumont Navigation District in 1983. He served as Port Commissioner for thirty years before retiring in 2013.

Henry was an active member of the community, serving as President of YMBL, Chairman of the Board for the Salvation Army, and Lamar University Cardinal Club President. He was recognized as Deacon Emeritus for years of dedicated service to the congregation of Calder Baptist Church.

Henry was loved by many and will be deeply missed by his numerous friends and family members. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Rumery and her husband, Kyle, of Lumberton; grandsons, Kyle Rumery and his wife, Cresta, of Lumberton; and Jason Rumery and his wife, Cecile, of Beaumont; great-granddaughters, Presley Rumery and Berkley Rumery, of Lumberton; and his nephew, Len Raines, of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian O’Neal and Henry Nix, Sr.; his sister, Sue Raines; and his beloved wife, Mary Jo Meadows Nix.

A gathering of Mr. Nix’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 9, 2017, at Calder Baptist Church, 1005 North 11th Street, Beaumont, with his interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

Mr. Nix was one of the finest men i have known, rating right next t0 my Dad. I have been his hairdresser for at least 35 years. he has been a dear friend and like family to me. He will be missed greatly. He adored his wife and family. We talked alot through the years about you all..My deepest sympathy to all of you, God Bless
