John N. Fong

John N. Fong, 80, of Groves, died Friday, October 6, 2017. He was born on March 7, 1937, in Bonita, Louisiana.

John retired after 30 years with Bayer Pharmaceuticals. He was a high school All-American football player and also played for the University of Arkansas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Groves. John loved gardening and cooking Chinese food for family and friends. Golf was his favorite sport, and the Pea Patch was his favorite hang-out. His love and knowledge of music enriched the lives of those around him. He was a great dancer and loved to pass his dancing skills on to his grandsons.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Fong, of Groves; sons, Robert Fong and his wife, Donna, of Port Arthur; Steve Fong and his wife, Carmen, of San Antonio; and Michael Fong of Austin; grandsons, Byron, Matthew, Nicholas, and David Fong; brother, George Caraway and his wife, Ann; sister, Sandra Miller; brother-in-law, Gary Miller; and sister-in-law Annie Low.

He was preceded in death by his parents T.K. Fong and Ruby Caraway; and brother Tommy Low.

A gathering of family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m., with his funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.  

Memorial contributions for Mr. Fong may be made to First United Methodist Church, 6501 Washington, Groves, Texas 77619.

    Sorry for this family's loss. I enjoyed the company of Mr. Fong one time, and it was over a pot of delicious chicken gumbo.

    My condolences to the family. John used to come in the Pig Stand where I managed. He will certainly be missed by so many. God Bless

    I was privilege to know John during his time with MetLife. After he left us, I looked forward to his visits and he always left me with a joke he wanted to share. John is one of my favorite people.

    John Fong was my big brother. He was a remarkable man and a great family. He will be miss by his family and his little brother, me. Love you brother.

    It was always good to see him. I will never forget him dancing with our Aunt Irene to Paul Simon's Graceland. My prayers and thoughts are with you all, especially Linda, during this heart-breaking time.

    Big John,was one of the crew, we had some great times together, stories told over and over but never got old. Good man quite,but always knew where he was headed. God speed John,say hello to sensat from the boys.
