Mary Snider Pentecost

September 14, 1921 - October 16, 2017

Mary Snider Pentecost was born on September 14, 1921 in Mobile, Alabama, and raised in Montgomery, Alabama. She was the daughter of Ina Minnette Stallings and William Josiah Snider. She graduated from Sydney Lanier High School and went on to study nursing. She received her registered nursing degree and began her nursing career at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. This loving wife and mother to all was renowned for her culinary skills, hospitality, and love of animals. No person or creature was ever turned away from her home hungry. Compassionate and caring, she shared her time and nursing skills with any who needed them. She was a founding member of Trinity United Methodist Church, member of the auxiliary, the alliance de a Francais, volunteer at the Treasure House, Some Other Place, and numerous other charitable organizations. A big proponent of education, she also volunteered at the schools her children attended and pursued further studies on her own.

She is survived by her five children, Petria O’Reilly, Susanne Powell, John Pentecost, Janet Pentecost, and Gina Sicking. She was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren, Bridget Minutoli, Eamon O’Reilly, Brendan O’Reilly, Bonnie Armentrout, Michael Cortez, Lauren Reynold, and Megan Sicking; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Charles La:Thadwin Pentecost, M.D.; infants, Jorda Walter and Reine Marie; and her brother, Joseph Robert Snider, of Montgomery, Alabama.
