Richard D. Hayes

June 22, 1926 - December 6, 2017

Richard D. Hayes, 91, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, December 6, 2017. He was born on June 22, 1926, in Beaumont, to Velma Bouse Hayes and Roland Hayes. Richard attended South Park schools. He served in the United States Marine Corp, 5th Division, for two years during World War II, where he was a Marine Raider.

Richard was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving as usher and greeter for forty-plus years, while also attending the John Land Sunday School Class.

In his forty-plus years of Masonic life, he was a member of South Park and Tetonia Lodges, and he was a member of the 32nd Scottish Rite. Richard was a member of Cashan Grotto for thirty-eight years, and a member of El Mina Shrine. He served as past president of Texas State Shrine RV Association.

Richard retired after more than forty-five years as an electrician with the IBEW Local Union 479.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Marjorie Stephens Hayes; daughter, Adana Hayes Sanford and her husband, Samuel, of Dallas; two grandchildren, Stephanie A. Sanford and her husband, Robert, of Dublin, Ireland; and Blake Sanford, and his wife, Kammy, of Beaumont; three great-grandchildren, Allie, Hayla, and Breanna; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Jerry Hayes and his wife, Patty, of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mr. Hayes’ family and friends will be from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Nita McKnight Parlor, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison Avenue, Beaumont, followed by his funeral service at 2:00 p.m. His interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77706; El Mina Shriners Transportation Fund, 1616 23rd Street, Galveston, Texas 77550; or organization of one’s choice.
