Darlene Bailey Briggs

March 30, 1929 - October 30, 2017

Darlene “MorMor” Bailey Briggs, 88, of Nederland, died Monday, October 30, 2017. She was born on March 30, 1929, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Evelyn Ruth Evans Bailey and Orville Fred Bailey.

Darlene graduated as the class Salutatorian from Hotel Dieu in 1964. She retired from Texaco as a nurse after 20 years and continued working at St. Elizabeth for several years. Darlene was a member of St. Charles Altar Society, St. Charles Women Guild, and The Red Hats Society. She will be remembered as a loving mother and MorMor.

Survivors include her daughters, Monica Sullivan and her husband, Lynn, of Mobile, Alabama; Mona Grant and her husband, Daniel, of Austin; and Joan Krause of Nederland; son, Bill Briggs and his wife, Bonnie, of Fredericksburg; grandchildren, Morgan Leblanc and her husband, Jeff; Tara Schetzel and her husband, Doug; and Sean Grant; great-grandchildren, Lyla and Evelyn; brother, Edward Bailey and his wife, Pam, of Flint; sisters, Linda McCuistion of El Dorado, Arkansas; Marie Nelson and her husband, Ned, of Parkers Chapel, Arkansas; and Carol Harrell and her husband, Larry, of El Dorado, Arkansas; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Evelyn Bailey.

A gathering of Ms. Briggs family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2017, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 4, 2017, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with her entombment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ms. Briggs’ memory to Darlene Bailey Briggs Scholarship In Nursing, University of South Alabama, 300 Alumni Circle, Mobile, Alabama 36688, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
