James Elliot Barlow

June 14, 1951 - September 12, 2017

Surrounded by the love of his beloved family, James Elliott Barlow, known to his family as Buzz, was called to the Lord on September 12, 2017, in College Station at the age of 66, after a lengthy illness. Born in Beaumont on June 14, 1951, Buzz had a loving family of two parents, two siblings, five nieces and nephews, many loving aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins.  He graduated from South Park High School in 1969, and attended Lamar University.  He volunteered into the U.S. Navy and received a high security clearance, serving in Southeast Asia in the Viet Nam War.  He held many jobs during his life, and wrote poetry and essays, some of which made publication.  His beloved mom, Dot Barlow, preceded him in death.  He is survived by his 91 year old father, James R. Barlow, currently of College Station, who was his lifelong caregiver, along with his late mom.  Buzz is also survived by two brothers, Douglas M. Barlow and his wife Connie of College Station, and David W. Barlow and his wife Darlene of Lumberton.  He also loved his nieces and nephews, Cliff Barlow and his wife Ginny of Austin, Hilary Smith and her husband Chris of Katy, Heather Willis and her husband Chris of Bryan, Sky Barlow and his wife Breanna of Washington, D.C., and Josh Barlow and his wife Abby of Nacogdoches.  Buzz was a devout Christian, and he read his Bible and prayed daily, asking for God’s grace and guidance to help him through his life’s challenges.

A gathering of Mr. Barlow’s family and friends will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. His Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Broussard’s, with Reverend Robert Besser officiating. His interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Fortress Nursing Home and College Station Medical Center in College Station for their kind care in his last months.
