James Smith

James Douglas Smith, 73, of Vidor, died August 30, 2017, at Christus Hospital, St. Elizabeth. Mr. Smith was born on January 20, 1944, in DeRidder, Louisiana, to Leola Denard and Calvin H. Smith.

Mr. Smith served in the United States Navy and retired from Mobil Oil as an operator. He enjoyed cooking and especially loved cooking gumbo for his family. He was an avid reader and thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s ball games.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Hudson Smith; daughter, Dana York and her husband, Robert; sons, Bryan Smith and his wife, Cassie and Tod Smith; grandchildren, Heather Benbrook and her husband, Andrew, Morgan Lee, Garrett Smith, Tanner Lee, and Caleb Smith; great-grandchildren, Landon Benbrook and Lahna Benbrook.

A family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium.
