November 2, 1938 - July 22, 2017

Richard Burtis Armstrong, 78, of Beaumont, died Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. A native and lifelong resident of the area, he was born on November 2, 1938, to Lila Mae Vaughn Armstrong and Lemuel Thomas Armstrong. Richard and his wife owned Jan’s Antique Shop in Beaumont. He was a deacon at Calder Baptist Church, where he has been a member for forty-six years.

Survivors include his wife, Jan Armstrong; sons, Richard Jason Armstrong and James Derek Armstrong, both of Beaumont; sisters, Evaughn Taylor and her husband, Leon, of Fredericksburg and Bobbie Butler and her husband, Jules, of Spearfish, South Dakota; dog, Chopper; and cats, Sadie and Sophie.

A gathering of Mr. Armstrong’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. with his memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Calder Baptist Church, 1005 North 11th Street, Beaumont. A family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

I will always remember Richard as a most kind and gentle soul. Always had something positive to say and always had a smile. I'm sure he will have some good tales for the Lord..Carry on Richard.

I am just learning about Richard's passing. I am extremely saddened for Jan and Chopper. They were a constant threesome and always together. Very sweet, caribg and friendly to everyone. He will be greatly missed.
