Michael James Bast, Sr.
December 25, 1943 - February 12, 2017

Michael (Mike) James Bast Sr., 73, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 12, 2017, at his residence. He was born on December 25, 1943, in Beaumont. He lived in Houston, and later came home to Beaumont, where he would remain for the last forty years. Mike was a proud member of Pipefitters Local 195/211 and also worked repairing cars, motor homes, horse trailers and mowing grass. He enjoyed the beach, playing pool, dancing, fishing, hunting, woodworking, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Mike is survived by his wife, Helen Malee Bast of Beaumont; children, Tammy and Todd Mount of Beaumont; Michael Bast, Jr. of Alabama; and Charles Bast of California; aunt, Betty Sanford of Louisiana; brother, Jessie Perron of Beaumont; sisters-in-law, Sandy Toth of Ohio, Gloria Jackson of Beaumont, and Alicia Moore; brother-in-law, Dwayne Herrmann of Vidor; a host of nieces and nephews; along with friends and extended family, including Margaret Nickell of China, Reagan Herring of Evadale, and Mr. Al Reed.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Josie Salles of Beaumont and Garfield Bast of Missouri; sisters, Billie Jo Herrmann and Wilma Osborne; brothers, Edward Cooley, George Jackson, John Perron, and Lewis Perron.

The family would like to thank Claudette, Tim, Kevin, Shane, Stephanie and a host of others at Harbor Hospice for their compassionate care.

A gathering of Mr. Bastís family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2017, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Broussardís, with Big Jim Salles, officiating. His interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, 3098 Highway 69, Nederland, with Jessie Perron, Charles Bast, Brian Luquette II, Todd Mount, Danny Herrmann, Wade Cooley, Brett Jackson, and Reagan Herring, serving as pallbearers.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at West End Baptist Church 8180 Phelan Blvd., Beaumont, following the service at the cemetery.
