June 10, 1930 - September 21, 2012

Ralph Bryan Smith, 82, of Nederland, died Friday, September 21, 2012, at his home.  He was born on June 10, 1930, in El Dorado, Arkansas to Vida Thomas Smith and John Crawford Smith.  A resident of the area since 1961, he and his wife were members of First Baptist Church in Nederland.  He was a veteran in the Air Force and served during peacetime at the end of World War II.  Mr. Smith retired as a process operator from Mobil Chemical after thirty-eight years of service. His close friends and co-workers always referred to him as “Fatboy”. Ralph loved flying and enjoyed taking family and friends for rides when he was able.  He was proficient at fixing cars and engines and loved sharing his knowledge with others.  Ralph thoroughly enjoyed traveling with family, especially to Colorado. Time spent with family and friends was precious to him.


He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Clarice Smith; daughters, Sally Culver and her husband, Larry, of Port Neches; and Nancy Cain of Nederland; son, Danny Smith and his wife, Cindy, of Larkspur, Colorado; grandchildren, Lori Cain of Nederland; Jenn Cain of Stephens Point, Wisconsin; Keelie Smith and Bryan Smith of Larkspur, Colorado; Sarah Culver; Michael Culver; and Kristen Culver of Port Neches; and special friends, Alan and Wendy Roberts and family; Mark and Peggy Griffin and family; Vincent and Alise Basset and family; and Ole and Carolyn Sunde and family.  He also leaves behind a host of other friends and relatives to cherish his memory.


A gathering of Mr. Smith’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.


Memorial contributions may be made to any children’s charity of one’s choice.


The family would like to thank all of his doctors and the staff at Intrepid and Harbor Hospice for the wonderful care he received during his illness.
