Alfred "Al" Gaytan
October 17, 1925 - March 27, 2013

Alfred Gaytan, 87, of Fannett, passed away on March 27, 2013, after a long illness.  He was born in Port Arthur, on October 17, 1925, to Mexican immigrant parents, Carlotta and Jose Gaytan. He spent his childhood in Houston and was a lifelong resident of Fannett.

He served his country well and honorably; in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He achieved the rank of Second Class Petty Officer.

As a lover of the arts, Alfred had a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lamar University and a Masters degree in Art from San Miguel de Allende University, Mexico. Over the years he volunteered his services and donated to the Little Theater and the Beaumont Art League.  He was an artist and instructor specializing in water-color, winning several local and state awards. Later in life he worked heavily in ceramics.

He was a free spirited individual with malice toward none.

Survivors include his brother, Armando Gaytan and his wife, Lindy, of Reno, Nevada.

Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Billy; mother and father; and brother, Joe.

Special thanks to Christine Moore, Renee Waters, and the staff at Altus Hospice for the care towards Alfred.

At Mr. Gaytanís request, there will be no funeral services. His body will be cremated and his cremated body scattered at sea, under the direction of Broussardís, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

Anyone wishing to contribute in Alfred Gaytanís memory is requested to make a donation to Beaumont Art League, 2675 Gulf Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77703 or visit
