Amparo Catangay Basa
Amparo Catangay Basa, 87, of Beaumont, died Monday, June 22, 2020, at Christus Southeast Texas, St. Elizabeth-Beaumont She was born on November 7, 1932, to Demetria Cansana Catangay and Agapito Catangay, in the Philippines.
Amparo is an anchor for the Filipino community in Beaumont, Texas. She is also known in other communities of Beaumont including St. Anne Catholic Church, St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, and Best Years Senior Center. Family that has resided in Beaumont during her life include Almabella B Heiman, Ronnie L Heiman, Ampy Basa, Logan Heiman, Morgan Guillory, and Michaela Guillory. Many that have been blessed to know can validate that her smile and laughter filled the room. Amparo had a giving spirit. Her hobbies included ceramic art; a passion developed through the Best Years Senior Center. Many across Beaumont have her beautiful art blessing their homes. She expressed genuine joy through conversation, storytelling, singing, dancing, enjoying music, exercise, art and much more. Before living in Beaumont, she lived all over the world including California, Hong Kong, London, Denmark and the Philippines. Her exceeding generosity and genuine character thrusted her from humble beginnings in Manila to producing a family full of college graduates and world conquerors following in her footsteps. Her light will reign forever in her family, her friends, and anyone who had the honor of knowing her.
Survivors include her daughters, Almabella Heiman and former son-in-law, Ronnie Heiman, of Beaumont and Yolanda Munday of London, England; son, Danilo Basa and his wife, Loida, of Manila, Philippines; grandchildren, Morgan Guillory, Amparo Basa Heiman Slattsveen, Michaela Guillory, Logan Heiman, Anna Donna Basa, Ann Farita Basa, Donnielee Basa, and Claire Jessica Lawson; and great-grandchildren, Simon Slattsveen, Sander Slattsveen, and Sophia Slattsveen.
A gathering of Mrs. Basa’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Sunday, June 28, 2020, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont. Please observe social distancing guidelines.

I have known Amparo Basa since 1982. She has always treated me like a son. Her help in raising Amparo (Ampy), Logan, Morgan, and Michaela were a great help to Alma and me. She always put the children first before herself. She will be missed by all of us. Love you nanay. Goodbye.

All the goodness in me, comes from you, my dearest Nanay. Your love, strength and spirit will forever guide me. I will miss you but find comfort that you can rest in peace. I’ll know you are near when I cherish our sweet memories with Logan, Morgan and Michaela, when I hug my children and show them the love I learned from you, when I’m preparing a feast in the kitchen to those gathered at my table. On dark days when I’m struggling, I will feel you strengthen me as you did for all my life. When the sun is shining and the flowers in bloom, I will feel your warmth. Rest In Peace Lola Ampy . You were ultimate Lola to my brothers and so many of my cousins. You took care of us, shared your affinity for cooking, reminded us to mind our studies, supported us in our hobbies, and reminded me to say my prayers before going to bed. I remember your love for flowers and your scent of perfume and spearmint gum. I will light a candle and pray for you., Lola. I I thank you for helping shape the person I am today.
