David Jones

August 29, 1935 - November 4, 2019

David William Jones, 84, of Wildwood, died Monday, November 4, 2019. He was born on August 29, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Catherine Moeller Jones and Leslie Milton Jones.

After graduating from Madison High School in Madison, Ohio, David attended and graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. After graduating college, David proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Bay of Pigs era in Cuba and then completed his time in the Army at Fort Chaffee, Arizona.

In 1965 David accepted a position at Bayer Corporation in Orange. He was assigned to various management positions over the twenty-eight-year time that he worked there. David was also assigned to overseas start-up and technical advice teams in Japan, Germany, and Italy.

David loved to be involved in his children’s activity. He was Pack Leader in the Cub Scout Program, Scout Master of Troop #222, and was involved in the West End Little League of Beaumont as an umpire, an assistant manager, and then as President of the League.

He was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church and served on the finance committee for three years. He was a member of HAMACO Sunday School Class for many years and after retiring and moving to Wildwood, became a member of the Wildwood Village Mills United Methodist Church, serving two years as president of the Methodist Men’s Club. David was also a member of the Trustee Committee and Chairman of Building and Grounds Committee, chairman of Staff-Parish Relations, delegate to the Annual Conference Houston, finance committee chairman, and an outreach committee member.

David enjoyed traveling, visiting with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and square dancing. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Jones; children, Vicki Lynn Jones Hartman and her husband, David, of Montgomery; Jeffrey David Jones and his wife, Glenna, of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; and Steven William Jones and his wife, Deanna, of Corinth; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and sister, Karen Kne and her husband, Richard, of Madison, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, Zachary Jones.

A gathering of David’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Wildwood Village Mills United Methodist Church, 5943 FM 3063, Village Mills, under the direction of Broussard’s, Silsbee. His interment will follow at Village Mills Cemetery, Village Mills.
