Etta Ray Blanton

Etta Ray Blanton, 83, of Beaumont, died December 4, 2017, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, Beaumont. She was born on March 5, 1934, to Zela Ray Cox Hicks and Willie James Hicks in Luling. Etta grew up in Beaumont and graduated from Beaumont High School. She was a bookkeeper for Sears, Sabine Monument and Porters Flooring for many years. Etta was a member of the Eastern Star and was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church until her health declined in recent years.

Survivors include her son, David A. Blanton, of Beaumont; brothers, W.J. Hicks, Jr., of Beaumont and Carl Hicks, of Nederland; daughter-in-law, Sandra Blanton, of Alvin; grandchildren, Lori Varghese and her husband, Josh, of Dallas and Christopher Blanton and his wife, Danielle, Courtney Blanton, and Corey Blanton; and great-grandson, Daniel Blanton.

She is preceded in death by her husband William Grover “W.G.” Blanton, Jr.; and son, Terry L. Blanton.

A gathering of Mrs. Blanton’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 8, 2017, at Broussard’s, Beaumont, with her graveside to follow at 4:00 p.m. at Glenfawn Cemetery, FM 2753, Cushing, Texas.
