Evelyn Lawrence

Evelyn Gertrude Reeves Lawrence, of Port Neches, was called home by the Lord on September 11, 2018. She was born on 19th Street in Port Arthur, the fifth of eight children, to parents Homer and Oma Eaves Reeves. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1956 and attended Port Arthur College.

Evelyn retired from the human resources department of Gulf States Utilities, now Entergy, after a 34-year-career that began in customer service. During her lifetime, Evelyn lived in Port Arthur, Texas; Biloxi, Mississippi; Cape Cod, Massachusetts; Groves, Texas; and Saint Francisville, Louisiana, where she helped staff GSU’s nuclear power plant.

She is survived by sister-in-law, Gertrude Griffiths Reeves of Kirbyville; sons, Roy “Buddy” Lawrence, Jr. and his wife, JoAnn Cuccia-Lawrence of Port Neches and Donald Lawrence and his wife, Jill Toler Lawrence of Port Neches; daughter, Kathi Lawrence-Orgeron and her husband, Richard Orgeron, of Fannett; grandchildren, Joseph Lawrence and wife, Alisha Broussard Lawrence of Nederland; and Rachel Lawrence and Eric Lawrence, both of Port Neches; twenty beloved nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren; and numerous cousins in Texas and Louisiana.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Johnnie Mae and Anita; and brothers, Delbert, Harold, Raymond, Jimmy and Charles.

The family would especially like to express their gratitude to all of Evelyn’s excellent, compassionate caregivers at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center; Dr. Kimberly Pitts and her staff; Heart-to-Heart Hospice; and Penny’s Forever Young. They cared for her with such love and compassion, as if she was a member of their own families, which enabled our family to receive and enjoy mom’s love until she was called home by the Lord.

Cremation arrangements for Ms. Lawrence were handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont. She will be interred at a later date at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.
