Frances Coco
Frances Tortorice Coco, of Beaumont, died peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the age of 90. The youngest daughter of Sam and Rosa Tortorice, she was born on August 19, 1927, in Beaumont.
She is survived by her son, Rusty Coco; and daughter, Marian Broussard and her husband, Pat, all of Beaumont; seven grandchildren, Frani Broussard Denenburg and her husband, David; Sam Coco and his wife, Erin; Patrick Broussard and his wife, Mary; Anthony Coco and his wife, Jennifer; Jude Coco and his wife, Maggie; Vincent Broussard, and Rachel Coco, as well as seven great-grandchildren, Giorgiana and Oliver Denenburg; Lily, Max, and Eli Coco; Finn Coco, and Lewis “Lewie” Coco.
Mrs. Coco is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent James “V.J.” Coco; her parents, Sam and Rosa Tortorice; her brothers, Johnny, Vic, Jake, and Joe (Sr.) Tortorice; and her sister, Mary Tortorice Sanderson.
Frances graduated from St. Anthony School in 1945, where she was the proud captain of the girls basketball team and the head cheerleader. She was married to V.J. Coco in 1947 and they were married for fifty-six years until his passing in 2004. She was a devout Catholic with a strong faith in God, which she passed all the way down to her great-grandchildren in the form of her favorite “little” prayer which she said every morning since her childhood. It reads, “Infant Jesus, bless me and keep me close to you. I want to please you, Jesus, in everything I do.” She was a regular face at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church and a member of the April Circle Prayer Group. Frances was a selflessly devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose love for her family came above all else. As the youngest of six children, her calling in life was caregiver and she did so lovingly for her parents, her brothers Johnny and Vic, her sister, Mary, and her husband, V.J. She took great joy in feeding her family both in body and soul. Whether it was her famous “meat patties” and unending offerings from the kitchen or her endless hugs, kisses, “I Love You’s”, and hilarious driveway dances with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her love for her family was unconditional and unfaltering. She was a truly sweet lady with a kind and gentle soul, whose smile lit up the room and touched everyone she met. She will be greatly missed.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Frances’ loving caretakers, Florencia Cortez, Celia Tabien, Nanette Cain, Tina Fernando, Mina Foust, Joy Mancao, and Lucy Dowell, as well as her doctors, Dr. Jeremy Huff, Dr. Jay Schachner, and Dr. Alfred Brady.
A gathering of Mrs. Coco’s family and friends will begin at 4:30 p.m., with her Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 24, 2018, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 6825 Gladys Avenue, Beaumont, with her entombment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
