Glenn O'Neil Joseph Gonsoulin

Glenn O’Neil Gonsoulin passed away peacefully on Friday, February 26, 2021, surrounded by his family, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.  He was born on November 15, 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Mavola and Chart Gonsoulin.

Glenn was a 1965 graduate of Thomas-Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas, where he met his high school sweetheart, Carol Wimer, and married her on June 24, 1966.  A veteran of the United States Army, he served as an expert marksman.  He worked for FINA/TOTAL refineries for forty years as a welder, operator, and OSHA/fire-safety inspector.  After his retirement in 2006, he devoted his time and attention to his family, whether it was mowing lawns with his TAZZ-man tractor service or helping his children and grandchildren with remodel projects around their homes or checking the truck out with his grandkids.

Glenn loved his family, more than anything, and loved going out to eat with everyone and cooking gumbo or crawfish, never passing up the opportunity to teach his grandkids the ways of a true coon-ass chef.  He loved the Lord and was devout in his faith later in life, growing in grace every week at Sunday service (right after his weekly trip to the Waffle House)!  Glenn was an avid fisherman and hunter, an excellent teacher when it came to firearm safety and self-defense.  He was also a 4th degree black belt in various martial arts and trained under Mr. Armatour, Mr. McNeese, and Mike Maxwell in Port Arthur.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Gonsoulin of Kountze, Texas; daughters, Teri Rodriguez of Sour Lake and Jeri Kirkendall and her husband, Chris, of Silsbee; and his six grandkids, Justin Kirkendall, Taylor Jacquet, Erin Jacquet, Joey Rodriguez, Rebekah Kirkendall, and Benjamin Kirkendall.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Mavola Thibodeaux; father, Chart Gonsoulin; sisters, Shirley Wood Cooksey and Betty Campbell; and stepfather, Coleman Thibodeaux.

A gathering of Mr. Gonsoulin’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  His interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
