James Earl Weaver

April 22, 1930 - May 11, 2021

James Weaver was born on April 22, 1930 in Liberty, Texas.   His father was Kyle Weaver and mother was Fanny Valerie Weaver.   He was 91 years old.   James was one of 4 children with brothers Edgar, Clifton, and Clearance and one sister Elsie Bee.  James grew up and lived in Hankamer, Texas with his adoptive parents Adolph Hankamer and Dana Weaver Hankamer.

James was married to his loving wife Beverly Margarette Syphrett for 47 years.  He cherished her dearly from the day he met her.   James had two sons Jimmy Weaver (wife Sandra) and Gary Weaver (wife Geri).  A step son Danny Syphrett (wife Kathy) and a step daughter DanElla Syphrett McCarty (husband Mike).    He had eight grandchildren, Jessica, Valarie, Tyler, Kori, Katherin, Kirsti, Daniel, and Garrett.  And 13 lovely great-grandchildren.

James Earl Weaver had been a life-long Chambers County farmer and rancher since 1947.   He and his wife Belle, live in Winnie, Texas.   James’ family to this area goes back as far as 1831 when Andrew Weaver and his wife, Julia, settled in the area north of Hankamer, Texas.   Here in the central part of Chambers County the family history of farming and ranching began.   James and his two sons, Jimmy and Gary, farmed and ranched with him for a few years in the early 1970s.

James Weaver loved being a farmer and rancher from the beginning.   He always said,  “You don’t get anything out of life and its bounty if you don’t put forth the effort”.   He also loved his favorite hobby as an airplane pilot.   He would wake up early in the morning and go crank up his plane to fly over and check his rice fields and cattle before the work hands made it to work.   He would even take them for a ride to see the fields if they were willing.

James was awarded the honor of Young Farmer of the Year in 1964 by the Texas Farm Bureau Association.  James was a strong advocate of conservation of the land and management practices.  He served on the Trinity Bay Soil and Water Conservation District as a board member for 43 years.

James was awarded the Pioneer Farmer of the Year in 2018 by the Texas Rice Festival.   It was one of the most exciting days of his life.

James was also a concerned person for the youth of Hankamer and surrounding areas where he set aside time for the Boy Scouts of America.  He was scout master for a number of years and told many stories about his experiences with the young boys growing up and experiencing the values of being a boy scout.

James was a member of the Board of Directors for the Security State Bank of Anahuac for 36 years as well as a director for the Farm and Home Association (FHA) in Liberty, Texas.

James Earl had a long wonderful life filled with good years along with a lot of hard work.   He loved life and enjoyed his family and friends.  He visited all of them as much as he could and truly loved to be with them all.   James also loved to play dominoes but beware if you were his partner or opponent… he was tricky and would always give you that big smile if he had you in a corner…
