Joel Brian Norsworthy

Joel Brian Norsworthy, 75, of Beaumont died Monday, October 5, 2020, at Mid Jefferson Extended Care Hospital in Beaumont.  He was born December 27, 1944 in Port Arthur, Texas to Evelyn Grayson Norsworthy and Hyman Randolph Norsworthy.

He is preceded in death by his parents and nephews James Kettl and Sean Kettl. 

Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Joyce Ann Harper Norsworthy of Beaumont; his brother, Gilliam Thibodeaux and his wife Nina of Lafayette, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Rhitt Garrett and his wife Janet of Hockessin, Delaware; nieces, Stena Kettl of Beaumont, Celeste Kendrick of Greeley, Colorado, Lara Garrett and her husband Michael Barrett of Eatontown, New Jersey, Julie Galvin and her husband Will of Ashburn, Virginia; and Tina Kettl of Forney, Texas; and nephew, Lonnie Kettl and his wife Melinda of Zachary, Louisiana. He is also survived by numerous cousins and great nieces, Cydney Meyer, Genesis Van Conant, Dionne Kettl, Heather Fulton and Lauren Kendrick; and great nephews Casey Meyer, Scott Kendrick,  Jake Galvin and Finn Barrett; and one great-great niece, Everly Van Conant.

To his family he was known as Brian and as Joel to the rest of the world. Brian was a graduate of Beaumont High School and received a B.S. in Sociology from Lamar University. He started his working life at the shipyards. He owned a bread franchise for a number of years, and he retired as a supervisor from Texas Health and Human Services.

Brian loved to travel and was well known for his gardens and fruit trees.  He was an avid fan of both the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros.  He was in two poker groups. He loved animals and doted on his two cats, Smokey and Maggie. Brian was always willing and able to lend a helping hand.  He was a friend to everyone he met.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Christus Southeast Texas-St. Elizabeth and at Mid Jefferson Extended Care Hospital.

Memorial contributions can be made to an organization of one’s choice. 

A family visitation will be held with a memorial service to be held at a later date, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont.

    I remember Brian from Groves Elementary. He was a good friend with a smiling personality. I saw him again at Lamar and at a funeral for a fellow classmate from Groves Elementary. He was always a friendly guy who I was glad to call a friend.. Prayers for his family.
