He married Alicia Rose Picou in 1959 and fathered three children. He was one of the first employees hired at the opening of the Goodyear Plant in Beaumont and retired after 40 years of service. He was an avid gun enthusiast and enjoyed shooting at the Golden Triangle Gun Club with local A Girl and a Gun facilitator Doc Marion Mayer. He and his wife Susan enjoyed 32 years with their blended family traveling coast to coast in their RV, on hunting trips, and cruises. His biggest pleasure was being “Pawpaw” and giving out candy that he called “medicine.” He loved Doberman Pinschers and leaves his 13 year old Allie girl to comfort her “momma” in his absence.

I’m saddened to hear of Joe’s passing. He and my Dad, Bobby Soence, worked at Goodyear Chemical together and were great friends. They went to lunch together almost every day. I can remember Joe from when I was a little girl. My Dad passed away January 27th. I know they are in Heaven together having lunch! God Bless Joe’s family.

Dear Family of Joe South, I grew up with Joe on Pipkin Street so many years ago. We all had lots of fun playing outside games back then. I know you will all miss him. Prayers for all of you. Jo Frances
