Letsa Kapsimalis Gavrelos

Letsa Kapsimalis Gavrelos, 78, fell asleep in Christ Tuesday, November 28, 2017 after her long battle with Alzheimer’s. Letsa was born on August 24, 1939 to Efstathia Kostadopoulos Kapsimalis and Demetrios Kapsimalis in Vouno, Greece. Her wish was to marry the man of her dreams and move to the United States. In 1960 that dream became a reality when she met and fell in love with Nicholas Gavrelos. They worked side-by-side for over 40 years in a family restaurant business raising their three children and making lifelong memories. Letsa loved sports and was a huge fan of the Houston Astros. She also loved being surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren. Letsa never met a stranger and her warm and humorous personality greeted her customers daily at the J & J Steakhouse. Letsa was adored and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her children, Mary Gavrelos Gregory and her husband, Gregory of Missouri City; John Gavrelos and his wife, Christine; and Billie Gavrelos Cisneros and her husband, Octavio, all of Beaumont; brothers, George Kapsimalis and his wife, Kostoula, of Tripoli, Greece and Kostas Kapsimalis and his wife, Gloria, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; sisters, Marigoula Drevou of Vouno, Greece and Maggie Davros of Beaumont; and grandchildren, Stephanie Gregory; Eleni Gregory Demeris and her husband, Nickolas; Katherine Gavrelos Williams and her husband, Michael; Ahna Gavrelos; Paige Gavrelos; Nicholette Gavrelos; William Gavrelos; Rebekah Tucker; and Caroline Tucker.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Nicholas Gavrelos.

A gathering of Mrs. Gavrelos’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Trisagion at 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2017, at St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017, at St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 690 North 15th Street, Beaumont. I often wondered about this sweet and precious lady after J and J closed. My Husband and I met Letsa when we first started dating and eating at the restaurant. She always greeted us at the door and then came and sat with us . We looked forward to not only the food but our time talking with her. She always had the best advice for us and told us we needed to get married and raise a family. We took her advice and are still together after 40 years. I wish I had known about her passing I would have went and said my goodbye to her. She was always special to us both..

Our prayers for all Letsa's family. She was a dear person, and our family knew her through our special meals at the J&J. Both she and the restaurant are sweet memories for us. (Our Sears Retirees group also met there for our meetings later.) We're thankful that she is no longer a prisoner of her disease.
