Marie Ann Coates

Marie Ann Coates, 96, of Beaumont, died Friday, November 10, 2017. She was born on August 15, 1921, to Emma Lexa Dolezal and John Dolezal, in Bottineau, North Dakota and was a United States Navy veteran.

Survivors include her daughter, Judith Wood of Beaumont; stepdaughters, Linda Armand and her husband, Carl, of Nederland and Barbara Crawford and her husband, Jack, of Tyler; grandchildren, Cheryl Finch and her husband, James, of Warren; Brenda Wood of Bridge City; Michael Wood and his wife, Susan, of Groves; Mark Wood and his wife, Myong of Colorado; Jennifer Scroggs of Louisiana; Jason Armand and his wife, Michelle, of Friendswood; and Amber Royer and her husband, Jake, of Richardson; great-grandchildren, Kayla Robinson, Justin Finch, Courtney Bomar; Katelyn Finch, Krista Bonner, Brandon Wood, Jared Wood, Raven Galaviz, Kirsten Brent, Hannah Wood, Sierra Galaviz, Jacob Brent, Elizabeth Wood, Michael “Mikey” Wood, Jr., Noah Wood, Aiden Armand, and Amos Armand; great-great-grandchildren, Caleb, Kinley, and Kamdyn Robinson, Clayton, Jr., Kylen and Karleigh Bomar, and Brayden, Dalton, and Mason Bonner; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Dale Slyter; first husband, Herman Scroggs; second husband, Guy Coates; sisters, Ethel Vanyo, Betty Vanyo, and Beatrice Richard; brothers, Leo Dolezal, Ross Slyter, and Jim Slyter; and sons, Jerrell Scroggs, John Scroggs, and Joseph Scroggs.

A gathering of Mrs. Coates’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 13, 2017, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 6825 Gladys Avenue, Beaumont. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.
