Mark Lyles

Mark Stephen Lyles, 58, of Port Neches, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He was born December 29, 1962, in Charlotte, North Carolina to Marilyn and Richard Lyles.

Mark was a 1981 graduate of Nederland High School where he sang in Ned and Company and played in the band. He was also a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band and graduated from Lamar University in 1988. He was a Mason through the Nederland Masonic Lodge.

Mark was especially overjoyed with the birth of his granddaughter this past September. He had a great appreciation for music and was always the best partner for music trivia. He was an avid collector of many things, especially his Subarus. Mark enjoyed sitting on the porch smoking his pipe as well as ‘walking barefoot in St. Augustine.’ He also had a soft spot for animals, particularly rescues.

Mark will be remembered for being a kind and generous soul who touched many lives.

He is survived by his parents, Marilyn and Richard Lyles; wife, Debby Lyles; daughter and son-in-law, Chelsea and Trevor Poppke; granddaughter, Lyla Poppke; brother and sister-in-law, Cayce and Jennifer Lyles; sister-in-law, Nuria Lyles; and beloved nieces and nephews.

Mark is preceded in death by his brother, Richard Arlen Lyles, Jr.; grandparents, Ruth and J.C. Lyles and Edna and Clyde Stephens; and uncle, Larry Stephens.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 8, 2021, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont. A private interment will be determined at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607 or to PetSmart Charities, 19601 North 27th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85027.

This is so sad to hear. I remember Mark fondly from our years together in the NHS marching band. He was such a talented, funny, and kind classmate who will surely be missed by all who knew him. (Funny side note: I may or may not have in my scrapbook a piece of notebook paper with the name, "Susan Kay Lyles" written over and over....)
