Martha “Marti” Lois Ballard, 67, of Groves, died Monday, March 23, 2020. She was born on January 28, 1953, in Port Arthur, to Lois Odelle Dryden Richards and Arlon Henry Richards.

Marti was a devout Christian and attended First Baptist Church, Nederland. She had a heart bigger than herself and was willing to give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Marti spent countless hours making goodie baggies and distributing them to the homeless around the Golden Triangle.

Marti loved to go on cruises, be with family, and watch westerns all day long. She never met a stranger, and all who knew her loved her to all ends. If there was a family gathering, Marti could be found in the middle of all the festivities.

Marti was "REAL". If she had an opinion, she spoke it without restraint and was loved for her outspoken ways.

Survivors include her brothers, Nathan Richards and his wife, Kathy, of Mabank and David Richards and his wife, Robbie, of Port Neches; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A family committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland.

Martha was a great person and always had a smile on her face. For a couple of years she was involved in the prison ministry at the Leblanc Unit and this is where I first met Martha. She was willing to help in any way she could. The inmates loved her and respected her.
    Martha is now home
