Morris Bryan Windham

November 6, 1943 - September 11, 2018

Our family, friends and community have lost an exceptional and beloved man. Morris Windham left God’s earthly kingdom with the courage and determination that he reflected throughout his life of seventy-four years. He was the youngest of ten siblings and the son of Lois and Waverly Windham. Morris was born in Honey Island, Texas on November 6, 1943. He attended schools in Silsbee, Texas and after high school graduation, joined the US Air Force, NSA and was stationed in London, England. After his service, he attended the University of Texas and Lamar University, majoring in business. After working for Bella Construction and Southampton Refinery, he started Beaumont Oil Inc., an international refined products, trading and transportation company. In 1987, Morris purchased Hendon Oil Field Services, later named PWI Inc. He built it into a multi-dimensional company providing oil field equipment and services throughout Texas and Louisiana.

A true Renaissance man, Morris was knowledgeable, worldly and proficient in numerous areas. He rarely turned down an invitation for adventure whether pre-planned or spontaneous. He was an avid skier, reader, hunter, equipment operator and off road motorcycle enthusiast. He was active in the Silsbee Chamber of Commerce, Neches River Festival, Beaumont Little League, Beaumont Country Club, Lamar University Friends of the Arts, Beaumont Young Life Board and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Morris was a genuine steward of the land. After purchasing Craven’s Camp north of Silsbee in 2006, he transformed the East Texas property into a refuge of serenity and beauty along the Neches River.

Morris was known personally and professionally as a man with a strong moral compass, exuding integrity and humility. His attitude towards life was contagious. He will be remembered for his quick wit, adventurous spirit, loyalty in friendship and generosity. He is survived by his cherished wife and soul mate, Paige Pemberton Windham and daughter Jennifer Windham and grandchildren Lydia, Leila and James Wiggins, daughter Keely Windham Carter and husband Carl M. Carter, III and grandchildren Campbell, Taylor and Holt Carter, son Chris Windham and grandchildren, Bryant, Meagan and Christopher Windham and numerous nieces and nephews. Morris was preceded in death by his first wife Linda Read Windham and son Bryan Parker Windham.

The Windham Family would like to thank the Oncology and nursing staff at St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas and family friend, Dr. Leon Hicks for his unwavering devotion and care.

A gathering of Mr. Windham’s family and friends will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 am., Saturday, September 15, 2018, in the Nita McKnight Parlor at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Trinity United Methodist Church, under the direction of Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. Morris was an incredible guy. I got to know him well when we were on the Silsbee football and track teams. He knew how to enjoy life and was always ready to try things that were a little more risky than some of us could handle. We went different ways after high school, but I have gotten to know him a lot better during the past 10+ years and have really grown to admire him. He has been a real leader in holding our high school class together including having all our recent reunions at his second home which is his incredible remake of the old Craven’s Camp. Morris was very successful in business, but at the same time remained the same old Morris who had a big heart and seemed to truly care about each and every one of his high school classmates. I treasure having had Morris as a friend and will really miss him.
