Richie Haynes

December 21, 1963 - November 3, 2018

Richie Haynes, 54, of Beaumont, died Saturday, November 3, 2018. He was born on December 21, 1963, in Kountze, to Mary Katherine Gandy and Emmett Dean Haynes. Richie was a teacher for thirty-one years, ending his career with the Beaumont Independent School District.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Stacey Haynes, of Beaumont; parents, Mary and Dean Haynes, of Kountze; brother, Jason Haynes and his wife Christine, of Beaumont; niece, Chaney Haynes; nephew, Jaxson Haynes; mother-in law, Nancy Petty and father-in-law, Phillip Petty; sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Todd Rogers; and brother and sister-in-law, Mitch and Debbie Petty, all of Beaumont; and many friends, students, and extended family members.

Richie was an avid creator of music and art. When he wasn’t spending time with his family and friends, he could likely be found writing and practicing music with his band, creating unique pieces of folk art, attending estate sales, having thought provoking discussions about life, literature, and the world around him or painstakingly restoring his and Stacey’s mid-century modern home.   He had a nimble mind that was always working overtime planning his next project. Richie was an amazing teacher that always challenged his students to be the best they could be while providing them thoughtful guidance to achieve those goals. He was the “cool” teacher. He was loved by his co-workers, friends and family. The world has lost a beautiful person with a great mind. The void he left cannot be filled.

A gathering of Richie’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday November 7, 2018, at Broussard’s,1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

Friends, family, and all those who loved Richie are invited to a celebration of his life to be held November 8, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at The Art Museum of Southeast Texas located at 500 Main Street, Downtown Beaumont.

He was my friend and confidant. We had many long talks about life. He was the only person you could talk to and have a difference of opinion and it was ok. I still remember the photo I took of him jumping in the air and clicking his heels because I didn’t believe he could do it! Lol What a character. He will truly be missed.

I had the honor and privilege of being educated by a phenomenal man! I pay homage to Mr. Haynes daily. Not a day goes by that I don’t check the “current events”. He taught us to know what was going on in the world we live in as well as understanding literature and writing. Thank you Haynes Family for allowing us a brief glimpse of the beautiful soul that was Richie Haynes. My condolences and prayers to his loving wife, parents and friends during this time of bereavement.

32 years ago I showed up on Richie’s doorstep with a stack of records under my arm, and delusions of rock stardom. I was there to audition for lead singer position in a band he was putting together. We hit it off immediately, bonding over our love of music, literature, and art. Richie became my band mate, my confidant, my teacher, and my closest friend. Although we drifted apart these last few years, I’ve always considered him as a brother. My sympathy goes out to Stacey, his family, friends and students. His memory will live on in the hearts off all who knew him.

Kelli Scofield

I always called him King Richie because he just seemed to know more about everything. He was such a huge part of our lives and I am truly grateful for that. Our hearts are truly broken over this loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family and our dear friend Stacy. We love you.

The couple of times I saw you over the past few years were lovely. (Even though you didn't remember me from high school.) You were a vibrant, interesting and nice guy. I am very saddened you are no longer with us. Comfort and blessings from our Lord, Jesus Christ for your loved ones.

Bobby and Wendy Lacy

Words can not express our deepest sympathy for the Haynes family. Reminiscing of Richie and our high school days, kept Bobby and I laughing.. It's comfort in knowing God has added another musician to His heavenly choir. Play on Richie...play on.

Theresa & Todd Madden

Stacey, words can’t describe how sorry we are for the loss of Richie. We are all so blessed to have been able to call him a friend. I was lucky enough to get to know him by proxy through Todd. Richie was truly like no other – he was a friend to all who knew him and a scholar of life – full of wisdom, advice and sometimes even a sermon or two. He could light a spark in so many people – I saw it first hand with my own son, who quickly become a fan of his dad’s buddy, Richie – always so happy when he would drop by in a whirlwind with some story or life lesson. I know his spirit will be with us all that’s just Richie and we all have one heck of a Guardian Angel now - no telling what he can coordinate from the other side. Peace to Richie – I know your star will shine very bright, you were definitely one in a million. Stacey our love and prayers are with you and your family and we are here for you. Love and peace to you. Theresa, Todd, Max and Sophie Madden

Working with Mr. Haynes was a pleasure, and I will miss our conversations on our off period about history, politics, etc... The Career Center will never be the same, and it will take a while for me to stop looking at the far end of the hall for his face, voice, and smile. I will remember all of the advice and encouragement garnered over the years from Mr. Haynes, and will cherish the support he always gave. Anyone who knew Mr. Haynes will feel the void he left in our lives with his passing, but none of us will be able to say that he didn't change our lives for the better. My condolences to his family, and you all will be in my prayers.

Natalie Quebodeaux

I am so broken over the news of Richie's passing. I have many great memories of road trips to watch the guys play at a hole in the wall bar, Whataburger stops on the way home and lots and lots of coffee. He was an amazing friend to all and best advice giver I have ever known. If you didn't want the truth....Richie was not the one to ask lol. His love for food and great conversation will be missed by all that had the blessing of being a part of his life. My prayers are with Stacey and all who knew and loved him for peace and comfort .

Mr. Haynes was my 8th grade English teacher. He was one of my favorite teachers. He met each student on our level, listened to us and all our problems (because in middle school we were all going through a life-crisis), discussed music in great detail (he let us listen to music in class as long as it “didn’t suck”), he was the ultimate cool teacher. We learned English and we learned so much about ourselves and life. I am 35 years old and still apply some of his life lessons and for Introduced my to many great bands. Thank you Mr. Haynes, you will be greatly missed!

Toni Blivens

Prayer of comfort and peace for the family and friends of Richie Haynes. He was truly a treasure to know. He was able to make a positive connection with everyone he came in contact with. I remember my A Hall days at Ozen fondly, and his sense of community played a huge part in those memories. Daily he came into my classroom to just check and make sure things were going okay with me as a teacher and as a person. Rest In Peace, Mr. Haynes. You are truly missed.

Jason DeCuir

When growing up in Kountze as a young musician, I looked up to Richie and his band Train In Vain quite a bit. We even covered their song "Crucify Me" when we played shows in SE Texas. I still think of Richie and TIV often and fondly. Richie, you are loved, missed, and will be remembered through your music and lives you touched.

Carla Robertson

My condolences to Mrs. Haynes and her family. I met Richie Haynes at the Taylor Career Center where he taught. I have never anyone who talks as much as I do but with such diverse topics and subjects. Richie Haynes will be dearly missed and loved. Many Blessings to you Mrs. Haynes and your family and thank you for sharing Richie with us.

Linda Lonnett

CLAUDIA CORREA

Mr. Haynes was such a wonderful and inspiring teacher the first years that Ozen started. He not only helped his students, but also countless others who knew him in passing his classroom. His wonderful view on life and life's lessons continue to live in his students hearts. Such an amazing human being with a heart of gold. He will be missed. (OHS Class of '01 Student)

For me, as a little kid well and into adulthood, Richie was the epitome of cool. I looked up to him as a musician and though he wasn’t a school teacher of mine, he taught me SO much about music, modern art, appreciation for architecture, and mid century design. Richie was in a band with my father, Stephen and he and Stacey felt like an extension of family for a long time. I’ll always have memories of being a little kid sleeping on club floors at their shows, or watching the band rehearse after school at Cotton Cargo. Later in life, I was lucky enough to have collaborated musically with him myself. He was a true talent, visionary, and thinker. Although our relationship became estranged when I moved away, he was a huge part of my childhood and is often brought up in conversation. I will always hold a torch to his creativity, incredible eye for design, and overall good taste.

Clifford and Therease Watts

Cliff and I were very saddened to hear of the passing of our classmate. Even though our paths hadn't crossed in many years; you never forget the ones you grew up knowing. Mr and Mrs Dean Haynes our deepest sympathies are extended to you and family during this difficult time.

Troy Ford

Richie, I will forever miss you and everything that you brought to the table of life. You were a beautiful person and definitely one of God's better creations. You gave people what they needed in many, many ways and never expected a return. I don't really have the right words(that was your thing Richie), but I feel them when the music plays. So play it loud and proud, and we'll catch up soon. God's peace and understanding to Stacey, Richie's family and his friends. I want to thank Mr. & Mrs. Dean Haynes for their role in giving the world another "raised right man" - they're hard to come by. Bless you Richie

Alan Miller

To my classmate and friend you were always one of the cool guys. After reading so many memories of you it appears you never lost your touch with friends and students. May you Rest In Peace . Praying for your family. Travis “Skipper” Hare and Joe Guidry also send their condolences to the family.

Layne Ford

I want to thank you for being my dad’s best friend for so many years. Thank you for giving him confidence in himself that he needed to play guitar again. Thank you for sharing with him your vigorous spirit and happy-go-lucky love of life. I’ll never forget how excited I would be when y’all would come home from estate sales and I could hear about all your finds. And how grateful I am that I got to hear y’all play together these last couple of years. You became a part of our family and we’re all going to miss you. I love you both.

Ron & Kathy Cleveland
