Our Friendship and business relationship began on the Golf course in 1988. The business portion had to do with the Wager we would put on each other as the Golf round played out. What I Learned about Rob during those frequent rounds of Golf was he was unfailing Honest and a Tremendous Competitor!! Around 1996 I begged Rob to join us in the Petroleum Land business, I can honestly say that Rob's vast background in the many businesses he had worked in made him the Perfect Landman.. Rob was Always a "Giver" and always made time to help and was very helpful with bringing my sons Mickey IV and John Paul into the Land business along with countless others that had the privilege of working with Rob.My comments could go on forever but i want to thank Rob's Family for sharing Rob with me and I hope and Pray that they and all us may find Peace and happiness in the Fact that Rob is no longer suffering. To Rob, I will miss you very much but look forward to jojning you on the First Tee once again. So Long My Friend, Mickey

Having the honor of calling Rob my friend is an Honor I will cherish always. He was one great man that always had a kind gentleness about him and never shamed me on my golf game. On my really bad shots he would say "We won't tell anyone" No matter where I ran into him he always had a smile and a hug for me. Rob enjoy your endless games of golf where the sun never sets and the pain is gone forever. Your Friend, Kim

I knew all the Mayfields from our time at Roberts Avenue Methodist Church, and beyond. I pray for comfort for this loss to a fine family. I remember Rob running around after his big brothers at Church. He was a close friend to my late Brother-in-law, Kelly Steele.

In the early sixties, although I went to a different school, Rob and I became friends through a mutual friend. later at Crockett Jr. Hi. I found Rob to be a leader, a guy with integrity and the "Monster Man" on defense at football practice. At Beaumont High, Rob was a leader both in and out of the classroom. His mom, Helen, was a favorite teacher of mine at Crockett. Condolences and prayers for the family. I can't imagine your pain. Please know that the Cantu family has you in their prayers.

Rob was a wonderful human being and we will miss his presence in this world.

I have been very blessed to have had Rob as my life long friend over the past 61+ years. “Life” is a series of events that shape our lives. We caught up with our lives and families at high school reunions, fraternity reunions, and many games of golf in Beaumont. He will be missed by many, but I pray that there will be another meeting where we can again enjoy each other’s company and “catch up”. I’d like to end with John 16:33, when Jesus says “ I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
