Steveo Barbre
Steveo Barbre, Jr., 78, of Buna, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018. He was born on July 20, 1940, to Mary and Steve Barbre, in Wiergate, Texas.
Steveo was born in Wiergate, TX, but soon moved to Nichols Creek where he resided for most of his life. He graduated from Deweyville High School in 1959. He began working on pipelines in 1961 and worked for 39 years as a pipefitter.
He married Brenda, his wife of 35 years, in 1983 and began his role as a father. Over the next several years, those little blonde headed girls, as he called them, became his own. Steveo put his family first and always worked hard to provide for them. Though some only knew his gruff exterior, he told his family often how much he loved them. His girls feel that they could not have been blessed with a better dad. In fact, he is even more special to them because he chose them.
When he became a grandfather, his rough and tough traits slowly began to disappear. The three grandsons melted them away and stole his heart completely. They were his whole world. In fact, the desire to be an example to Brett was one of the driving forces for Steveo to begin doing something he said he had known for quite some time he needed to do- get his life right with God. He began attending worship with the family when Brett was old enough to ask why PawPaw wasn’t going. He obeyed the gospel soon after. He was very joyful to be a Christian. He would tell his friends how God had changed his life.
In his later years, Steveo loved to sit under his carport and watch his cows. He loved having coffee with friends. Anyone who knew Steveo knew he was a great storyteller and loved to visit! We will all miss his stories. .
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Barbre; daughters, Amber Conner and her husband, Curtis, of Spurger; Mindy Marse and her husband, Joey, of Buna; grandsons, Brett Bussell, Dylan Conner, and Toby Marse; brothers, Alfred Barbre and Edward “Joe Boy” Barbre; and sisters, Lorraine Nichols and Juanita Banse.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earl Barbre and Ellis “Buddy” Barbre; and sisters, Bernice “Betty” Kelly and Gladys Nixon.
A gathering of Mr. Barbre’s family and friends will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2018, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee, with his funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. His interment will follow at Sudduth Bluff Cemetery, Buna.

Uncle Steveo, I will miss you dearly. The love of his life was my aunt Brenda. He often told me without her he would not have anything. Uncle Steveo and I did not always see eye to eye when I was young, headstrong, and hot tempered (maybe just maybe we were on the same page.) But we both grew to love each other and soften our rough exteriors. I have more stories than I can write down. It would be a large book. Years ago, he would take all his nephews fishing on the river. He would tell us “get ready boys y’all can mop up some catfish.” Years ago, before the deer dogs were outlawed, we would all load up and stay gone hunting all day in the woods. It would be Uncle Steveo, Uncle Joeboy, and my daddy running them dogs all day. All the nephews would steal some coffee out of Uncle Steveos thermos trying to be just big as him. Later in life he was very influential in leading my son to join local 798. He would call me several times a week and we would talk about cows and family. We would talk about whatever job Brett and Kolton where on. One thing about Uncle Steveo you did not have to guess what was on his mind. He used to call us Punks. Guess I can't ever remember a time that I didn't know Steveo Barbre. He was friends with most of my family members, He used to hunt deer with my Uncle Warren and talked cattle with dad. When my own dad was sick; Steveo was faithful to check in on him and always volunteered his help if we needed him. Steveo was a true friend. When anyone mentioned Steveo in conversation, I automatically knew who they were talking about. He was one of kind. Like others had said before; Steveo loved Miss Brenda and not only loved her; he respected her and expected others to respect her too. Even though to most Steveo seemed to have a tough exterior, he had the biggest,, softestest heart . We miss him being here just to talk to. He was mine and the girls rock! Steveo was always there for us. I can see him sitting in his rocker under the carport watching his cows. His favorite thing to do was talk to his boys . When one of them called him or came to visit , he was so happy! Steveo never failed to tell and show us how much he lioved us! We were blessed to have had him in our lives . I’m thankful for having him as my husband and being there to love our girls and grandsons. Steveo was a really good man and husband, dad and Pawpaw. He is missed by us all!
