Susan Kay Phelps

August 18, 1952 - November 11, 2020

Susan Kay James Phelps, 68, of Port Arthur, died Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Christus Southeast Texas – St. Elizabeth, Beaumont. She was born August 18, 1952, in Horatio, Arkansas, to Mary Beeson James and Charles James.

Susan was the sixth of nine children. The James crew relocated from Arkansas and settled in Port Neches, Texas where Susan graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School. She worked in the hotshot delivery business, where she started as a driver and progressed to Terminal Manager for several companies.

The beach was definitely Susan’s happy place and she was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros fan. Her greatest joy came from her children and her grandsons and she was looking forward to becoming a Great-MawMaw this coming April.

Survivors include her children, Lori Hepburn and husband, Colin, of Port Arthur and Derek Foreman, of Nederland; sisters, Anita Weaver and husband, Ray, of Lumberton and Debbie Jones and husband, Eugene, of Groves; brothers, Richard James and wife, Marcella, of Groves; Roy James, of Port Bolivar; and Mark James and wife, Michelle, of Lumberton; grandchildren, Chase Hepburn and wife, Adrienne; Austin Hepburn; Jonas Hepburn; Ethan Foreman; and Wyatt Foreman; and numerous extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Charles; sister, Charlene Martin and husband, Tiny; and brothers, Steve and Tony James.

A gathering of Ms. Phelps’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. In true Susan spirit, feel free to wear your favorite Dallas Cowboys or Houston Astros gear. Her committal will be held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.
