Thelma Spears

May 19, 1927 - September 9, 2018

Thelma Willis Spears, 91, of Beaumont, passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Gilbert’s Assisted Living, Beaumont. A native of Jena, Louisiana, and resident of the area since 1952, Thelma was born on May 19, 1927, to Venie (Shoemaker) and Alon P. Willis, Sr.

A Lamar University graduate and emergency room nurse at Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, for twenty-eight years, Thelma was a dedicated professional and well respected. She was a long standing and faithful member of Amelia Baptist Church where she taught Youth Sunday School Classes.

Thelma is survived by her children, Lucretia Abbey, of Crystal Beach; Orlinda Spears Manning, of Hemphill; and Clyde Spears and his wife, Sharon, of Lumberton; five grandchildren, Shane, Carrie, Jana, Livvie, and Micah.

She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, Cecil; her parents; four brothers; and four sisters, including her twin, Velma.

A gathering of Mrs. Spears’ family and friends will begin at 9:00 a.m., with her memorial service to follow at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Amelia Baptist Church, 8055 Brighton Drive, Beaumont. A private family committal will be at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

The family expresses their appreciation to Gilbert’s Assisted Living for the loving care of Thelma.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amelia Baptist Church, 8055 Brighton Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77707.
