Vern, first and foremost was big in stature, but even bigger in heart. He never met a stranger, was the first to help someone in need, and always was true to his friends. If you knew Vern, you knew that his three favorite things were fishing, hunting, and eating. Hard to say which one was his favorite. We enjoyed doing all those things things together for the last forty years. Vern was more to me than just someone to hang out with though, he was family and he will be missed.

I had not seen Vern in years, but still remember his smile, laugh and those dimples! He was someone whom you knew the moment you met him that he was a good person. My prayers are with his family and friends.

Vern was a highly intelligent, very articulate and engaging young man who I was honored to work with at Olson Engineering in Bridge City, Texas. At the time, I was his immediate supervisor (and friend) in the piping department. Vern was one of our brightest minds and was immensely talented as a designer. Very organized and a great communicator. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a genuine love of people. He could light up the room with his smile and presence. I loved Vern as a dear friend and will never forget him. My prayer is that his family and friends will find comfort in the Lord during this time of grief.

I cannot add much to how well Johnny described our Vern .....except to say maybe he was alittle stubborn ? Not only did he have a big heart but he was humble and enjoyed the simple things in life. He was a good listener and always found the bright side of any situation. He was a fine man and a great friend with an infectious smile that will be dearly missed.❣

My condolences to the family. Vern used to crack me up working with him. I never meet any that loved food like he did. We shared the love of fishing and hunting. May he Rest In Peace.

Big Vern! A big old boy who was a pleasure to work with. Meet him 20+ years ago. Great guy. Knowledgeable and always a team player. We ate more than a few lunches together in the cafe in Exxon Baytown. Those cafe ladies loved his politeness and manners. You got bigger helpings if you were in line with Vern. A big intimidating figure but a gentle giant. Always fun to be with Big Vern! Tagged redfish in the CCA......that was Bern! Santa at the Fluor Christmas for the needy. That was Big Bern. Too soon....way too soon!

What a kind and personable guy Vern was. I met Vern and his Big smile over 20 years ago when we worked on a project in Baytown. It was a pleasure to work with Vern even as recent as a little over a year ago where he always was so respectful and kind hearted just as the first day I meet him. He was a knowledgeable and helpful co-worker. I will miss Vern very much. May God comfort and bless his family and friends in their time of sorrow.
