Wilbern Howard Gardner

Wilbern Howard “Brother Dave” Gardner, 85, of Kountze, died Thursday, January 21, 2021.  He was born on January 27, 1935, in Hillister, to Willie Mae Riley Gardner and James Ellis Gardner. 

Mr. Gardner proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1958 until 1961.  He retired from Dupont Beaumont Works after over thirty years of service.  He was a member of Pine Masonic Lodge #642 in Kountze and the Lumberton Church of Christ. Mr. Gardner was a fifth generation Texan, an avid hunter, and lover of the piney woods of southeast Texas.  He will be remembered as a true American patriot.

Survivors include his daughters, Elizabeth Davis and her husband, Cory, of Nolensville, Tennessee and Cathleen Gardner of Kountze; grandchildren, Graham, Scarlett and Sloane Davis; and brother, Delman Gardner and his wife, Patsy, of Shreveport, Louisiana.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Mae and Ellis Gardner; wife of fifty-eight years, Mary Nell Gardner; and infant brother, James Ellis Gardner, Jr.

Mr. Gardner’s public graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021, at Allison Cemetery, Warren, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Wounded Warrior Project, 200 Space Park Drive, Suite 100, Houston, Texas 77058 or to a charity of one’s choice.
