A.L. “Pete” McBride

A.L. “Pete” McBride, 87, of Winnie, died Monday, January 30, 2017. Pete was the baby boy with two older sisters and two brothers, and was born in Hankamer, to Lena Sittig McBride and Frank Harold McBride. The family moved all around Texas and Louisiana, from Bell City to Daisetta following their Dad, who worked as a driller for Gulf Oil. That is where his love of travel started. 

Upon graduation, he went into rice farming, but was unable to harvest his first crop because he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. After returning from active duty, he joined his brother Steve and started an electrical business, which later became McBride Electric. Pete retired in 1985 after thirty-three years with McBride Electric.  

In 1953, Pete met Bertha Abshire and married in 1954. From that union, they had five children.

He loved to fish, travel and follow his sixteen grandkids athletic events which kept him busy. He also enjoyed camping with family and friends. In his 87 years, Pete lived a full life doing what he loved when he wanted.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha McBride, of Winnie; sons, Mike McBride and his wife, Vickey,  Wayne McBride and his wife, Kandy, and David McBride and his wife, Angela, all of Winnie; daughters, Frances Clubb and her husband, Robert, of Hamshire; and Lena Johnson and her husband, John, of Winnie; sixteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; numerous nephews; nieces; cousins and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Anna Laura Irwin and Evelyn Miller; brothers, Van McBride and Steve McBride, Sr.

A gathering of Mr. McBride’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2017, at Broussard’s, 134 West Buccaneer Drive, Winnie. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 at Broussard’s Chapel, with interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Winnie.
