Anna Smith

Surrounded by her family, Anna L. Smith, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, in Beaumont.

A life-long Texan, Anna was born in Gainesville and resided in Silsbee for more than sixty years. She attended Lamar University and enjoyed a lengthy career in bookkeeping.

Her life centered around her family, her First Presbyterian Church, and her many friends. Anna’s true creative passion was acting. She exceeded all expectations on and off stage. Delighting in making others laugh with her crazy antics, Anna soothed many a troubled soul. Her ability to make others laugh was her most divine gift.

When not on stage, Anna was a devoted bridge player. The years of bridge helped form lasting friendships, and she spoke often about the joy this pastime brought her. She was a duplicate player and was extremely proud to have attained the rank of Ruby Life Master.

She was an active member of Presbyterian Women, Silsbee Garden Club, Silsbee Women’s Club, and served as President of the Silsbee Little Theater.

Anna is survived by sons, Randy Smith and his wife, Ruth; Rick Smith and his wife, Donna; daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Smith and daughter-in-law, Lucia; grandchildren, Rhiannon Jajoo and her husband, Rajesh; Caitlin Young and her husband, Pete; and Tyler Smith; and great-grandchildren, Kavi and Karan Jajoo, and Ava, Davis, and Lillian Young.   She was preceded in death by her parents, Lula and Oren Gentry; loving husband of fifty-six years, Hugh Smith; grandson, Ben Smith; and beloved daughter-in-law, Corliss Smith.

Anna’s memorial service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. Her committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont.

"Here’s to beefsteak when you’re hungry, Whiskey when you’re dry, All the love you’ll ever want, And heaven when you die." My Irish toast at your Mom's celebration this evening.

Now I know where you got your wonderful gift of wit, personality, and charm. I'm sorry for the loss of a lovely woman, who raised my lovely friend. May your Mom remain in your heart forever and she rest in warm, heavenly fields with the ones she loves. Love and thoughts to you, Lucia, your brothers, and all the rest of your family.

Does life go on without Anna in it? It certainly will never be the same at The Bridge Studio!
Condolences to Randy and Tyler and remembering Corliss and Ben. Hugh, too.
We have loved our time with your family..

Anna Smith was my friend for many years. She was also my tambourine player in our Silsbee Little Theater band.. She acted on stage in a number of productions for years both with me and with many other local actors.. Anna had a stage-presence like no other performer. She will be remembered as a very good actress who was dedicated to the Silsbee Little Theater and its success. She will be greatly missed by so many friends in Silsbee and those in the Little Theater community..
