Barbara Vincent

October 13, 1946 - February 26, 2020

Barbara Jean (Rothrock) Vincent, 73, of Nederland, made her journey home on February 26, 2020. She was born on October 13, 1946, in Sundown, to Myrtle Jean Gibbons Rothrock and Robert Ed Rothrock.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Port Neches and active in Celebration Women’s Ministry where she served as registration coordinator of the Nederland Chapter at Wesley United Methodist Church of Nederland. Until her illness, Barbara worked at Community Care-Prayer Outreach in Nederland, where she first served as a volunteer. She was also a retired aide from Langham Elementary School and former Activities Director at Cresthaven Nursing Home in Groves.

Barbara loved camping with her husband, Butch and traveling to visit their grandchildren. She was an avid Bible study teacher and student and loved reading and spending time in the Word. Barbara leaves behind evidence of her prayer life by the countless names posted in her “war room” prayer room.

She will always be remembered for her infectious laughter and beautiful smile. Barbara wasn’t afraid to tell it like was, and never liked sugar coating, which affectionately dubbed her the nickname “Sweet & Sour” at Central Baptist. She was loyal to her family and stood by them through thick and thin.

Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of fifty-five years, Otis “Butch” Vincent, Jr., of Nederland, daughters, Sheila Davis and her husband, Jerry, of Nederland; Kimberly Dugas ,of Corpus Christi; Laurie Faz and her husband, Roger, of Boerne; father, Robert “Rock” Rothrock, of Orange; stepsisters, Betty Bourgeois and her husband, Lyn, of Vidor; Debra Stagner and her husband, Hershel, of Orange; Linda Allred and her husband, Bruce, of LaMarque; stepbrother, Jerry Mathis and his wife, Debbie; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Jean Rothrock; brothers, Michael and Charlie; and stepmother, Alice Rothrock.

Mrs. Vincent’s graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2020, at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches, under the direction of Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A gathering of her family and friends will follow at 11:00 a.m., with her Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m., at Central Baptist Church, 903 Avenue B, Port Neches.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sean Healey, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, Drs. Celestine Tung and Robert Southard, Mid-Jefferson Extended Care, Bonne Vie, Harbor Hospice, and the amazing prayer warriors who surrounded the family during her illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church, 903 Avenue B, Port Neches, Texas 77651; Community Care-Prayer Outreach (CCPO), 808B Nederland Avenue, Nederland, Texas 77627; or to Celebration Women’s Ministry of Wesley UMC, 3515 Helena Avenue, Nederland, Texas 77627.
