Bertram Carpenter Jr

Bertram Earl “Sonny” Carpenter, Jr., 71, of Silsbee, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018. He was born on October 26, 1946, in Beaumont, to Lucie Belt Carpenter and Bertram Earl Carpenter, Sr.

Sonny had a forty year career as a registered nurse in surgery. He was compassionate about being a nurse and taking care of others. He was an excellent provider for his family and loved each of them dearly. He loved golf, fishing, hunting, and his favorite hobby was woodcarving ducks. Sonny was a ray of sunshine to others through his contagious smile and his humorous antics.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Carpenter; children, Christy Arney Baldwin and her husband, Parker, of Cameron; Kimberly Soileau and her husband, Lee, of Lumberton; and Cody Carpenter and his wife, Alicia, of Margate, Florida; grandchildren, Megan Arney, Kyla Crum, Breann Soileau, Colby Arney, Haidyn Soileau, and Nicholas Carpenter; brother, Ron Carpenter of Silsbee; and sister, Gayle McClusky and her husband, Kevin, of Silsbee. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of Sonny’s family and friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2018, at Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Broussard’s. His committal was held at Broussard’s Crematorium, Beaumont, with burial in Palestine at a later date.
