Bettie Joe Ray

July 29, 1939 - February 11, 2021

Bettie Joe Ray, 81, of Fannett, died Thursday, February 11, 2021, at Oakwood Manor in Vidor. She was born on July 29, 1939, in Bessmay, to Vera Alene Jayroe Fuller and Claude Fuller. Bettie Joe was an excellent cook that always made sure you had plenty to eat and would not walk away from her table hungry. Her generosity to others carried throughout her life, as she loved to give gifts to everyone letting them know just how much she cared for them. She was a faithful supporter of the PNG Indians and Baylor Bears. She never meets a stranger and loved talking about her family and how proud she was of every one of them.

Survivors include her children, Cindy Schroeder and husband Paul, of Fannett; Mark Stelly and wife, Nisha, of Justin; and Penny Savant and her husband, Mike of Bridge City; grandchildren, Misty and Justin Pierson, Ashley and Chad Emerson, Hollie and Lance Duff, Staci and James Sparrow, Haley and Colby Martin, Andrew and Josh; ten great-grandchildren; and siblings Janie Oliver and Fowler and Dorothy Fuller.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Gene Ray; three brothers and one sister.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Oakwood Manor, Vidor for taking such good care of Bettie Joe and making her feel right at home.

A gathering of Mrs. Ray’s family and friends will begin at 8:30am, with her funeral service to follow at 10:00am, Saturday, February 20, 2021, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery, Buna.
