Betty Sue Boyd Storms

August 23, 1941 - September 16, 2019

Betty Boyd Storms,78, died peacefully at her home on September 16, 2019. She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on August 23, 1941, to Georgia Pearl Roll Boyd and Mack Nolan Boyd. At barely over three months of age her family, like millions of others, was disrupted by the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Eventually her father was drafted, right before the very last of the married men with children were drafted, and she and her Mom and brother, George, left for her grandparents in Kansas. Thankfully, her dad, Nolan, returned safely and the family resumed residence in Corpus Christi. Growing up as the daughter of a JC Penney manager, Betty moved frequently as her dad transferred, from Corpus Christi to Houston to Mexia to Beaumont, where Betty graduated from French High in 1959. She retained a strong loyalty to the Mexia Blackcats where she had many friends, she still traveled with in her 70’s, and had been an enthusiastic member of the Blackcat band, playing clarinet.

In 1961 Betty married Keith Hansen at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and they had two daughters, Karen Elizabeth and Cynthia Jo. Betty attended The University of Texas and graduated from Lamar University in 1962. She taught elementary school until 1979, working for some time for Region V.

In 1977 Betty and Phil Storms began a 42-year marriage in Beaumont that eventually took them to Phil’s childhood home in the Denver area. They began to work in the mortgage and property management fields and opened their own company, Westmont Mortgage. In 1995, they bought property in Wildwood Resort Community north of Kountze, after their second grandchild in Beaumont was born. They spent more and more time in southeast Texas as the years went by and eventually fully retired to their Wildwood home. With two daughters, her sister, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild in Beaumont, life was busy and nothing pleased Betty more than everyone coming to the lake house for the 4th of July fireworks or other occasions.

Mrs. Storms is survived by her husband, Phillip Storms, of Beaumont; daughters, Karen Robbins and husband, Billy, of Beaumont and Cindy Woodland and husband, Philip, of Beaumont; step-     daughter, Susan Storms of Denver; grandsons, Zachary Crutchfield and wife, Holly, of Beaumont and Will Robbins of Houston; granddaughter, Katy Robbins of Beaumont; grandsons, Nolan Robbins and Ryan Woodland both of Beaumont; and great-grandson, Lucas Crutchfield; her sister, Linda Sparkman and husband, Terry, of Beaumont; and nieces and nephews. She is in preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George Boyd.

The family would like to express its deep appreciation to the caregivers who have taken care of Mrs. Storms in her long illness with great compassion, friendship, and loving concern.

A gathering of Mrs. Storms’ family and friends will begin at 11:00 a.m., with her funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 21, 2019, at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 1350 North 23rd Street, Beaumont. Her interment will be at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Beaumont, under the direction of Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Hope Women’s Resource Clinic, 3740 Laurel Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77707.
