Betty Thornton

March 9, 1937 - January 1, 2019

Betty Ann Thornton, 81, of Nederland, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019. She was born March 9, 1937, in Kingsland, Arkansas, to Edna Earl McFarland May and Ivan Lee May.

Betty was a retired school teacher after twenty-three years of teaching at Nederland Independent School District. She was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Nederland, for over fifty years. She enjoyed cooking, was very involved with Relay for Life, and had a passion helping others. Betty was a huge support to her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Ann Rossi, of Port Neches and Shelley Dianne Booker and her husband, Chris, of Groves; grandchildren, Misty Watson; Brandy Walker and her husband, Brad; Lacy McCoy; Kyler Eldridge; and Emily Elliot and her husband, Jacob; great-grandchildren, Laney , Gage, Aiden, Sadie, Kinlee, and Avery; brothers, William May and his wife, Helen, of Seattle, Washington and Joe May and his wife, Loraine, of Kingsland, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Evans Thornton; and sister, Patsy Seymour.

A gathering of Mrs. Thornton’s family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with her funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2018, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A family committal will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
