Bettye Helen Tompkins

Bettye Helen Tompkins, 91, of Beaumont, died Monday, August 10, 2020, at Atria Collier Park, Beaumont. She was born on December 17, 1928, and adopted by her parents, Corine Lillye Frazer and Jack Frazer in Kaufman, Texas, at the age of one.

While attending Lamar University, Bettye met her husband James. She was a patient mother to her two sons and an enthusiastic Kindergarten and Art teacher throughout her career.

An avid traveler, she ventured many places across the world both on her own journeys and on mission trips with the Methodist Church. Heavily involved with her church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, led exercise classes, and spent countless hours managing the church thrift shop to raise funds.

In her later days, Bettye enjoyed painting, socializing, and participating in activities at Collier Park. She never met a stranger and was always willing to try new things and live life to the fullest.

Survivors include her sons, Timothy Tompkins of Fannett and Wesley Tompkins and his wife, LuAnne of Shelbyville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Jeremy Tompkins and Samantha Richard and her husband, Jared, all of Fannett; great-grandchildren, Tori Valigura and her husband, Taylor, Katelyn Tompkins, Cole Tompkins, Luke Richard, and Camryn Tompkins; and great-great-granddaughter, Avery Jane Smith.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Tompkins; sister, Patricia Coffman; and daughter-in-law, Cathy Tompkins.

A gathering of Mrs. Tompkins family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2020, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. At a later date, an interment of her urn will be held at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
