Bettye K. Cook

March 21, 1930 - September 16, 2017

Bettye K. Cook, 87, of Beaumont, died Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Calder Woods, Beaumont. She was born on March 21, 1930, to Mary Joyce Duvall Kell and Frank Tandy Kell, in Laratown, Arkansas.

Bettye was a founding member of Westgate Church of Christ for over fifty-five years. She was recruited by her husband, Bill, to sing at countless weddings and funerals throughout the years. Bettye was a bank officer with Bank of America for over twenty years and after retirement she worked in the church office part time for a number of years. She volunteered her time at St. Elizabeth for twenty years. As a cancer survivor, she was involved with the Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” Program and served as a trustee on the Gladys D. Bevil Charitable Foundation.

Survivors include her son, Larry Cook of Dallas; brother, Ted Kell and his wife, Evelyn, of Brownwood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mrs. Cook’s family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Westgate Church of Christ, 6390 Westgate Drive, Beaumont. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to Westgate Church of Christ, 6390 Westgate Drive, Beaumont, Texas 77706 or to the Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” Program, 2390 Dowlen Road, Beaumont, Texas 77706.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Calder Woods for the loving care they provided to her in her final days.
