Beverly “Tetty” Oliver

January 25, 1952 - October 31, 2018

God forever gifted us when, on January 25, 1952, Beverly Ann Oliver was born to Manuel and Thelma Oliver in Beaumont, Texas. It was here that she spent her formative years surrounded by love and affection.  She received her nickname from a loved one who jokingly claimed that her legs as a child were “as skinny as a Titi bird’s.” She has since affectionally been referred to as “Tetty” to this day. Beverly attended Blanchette Middle School and later graduated from Charlton-Pollard High School in 1970. She briefly studied at Texas Southern University in Houston before returning to Beaumont to serve as a champion for low to moderate income families where she advocated for their rights and secured their safe and affordable homes through the Beaumont Housing Authority.  After retiring with commendations, Beverly continued her family’s tradition of volunteering and helping the less fortunate through Some Other Place, a nonprofit organization for the needy.  She also volunteered at her childhood house of worship, Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. She was also a member of Berean Tabernacle and later New Pilgrim Baptist Church where she was an active member and supporter of the local community.  Beverly’s other passions included traveling, scrapbooking, and being a proud and active member of her graduating class, the irrefutable and indisputable 1970 class of Beaumont Charlton Pollard High School. Having never met a stranger nor denied anyone in need, Beverly “adopted” countless members into her extended family who lovingly refer to her as “Mama” or “Grandma Tetty.” Beverly will be sorely missed by all of those who knew her, and she will be remembered most for her God-inspired love and ability to make everyone feel like family.

Beverly was proceeded in death by her grandmother, Nancy Jordan; her mother, Thelma Oliver; her father, Manuel Oliver; and her brothers, Alan “Red Foxx” Oliver and Jerry “Shug” Oliver.  We can take comfort in knowing that there will be family there to welcome her home. Beverly’s cherished memories live on through her second mother, Clara Belle Oliver of Beaumont; her beloved son, Toranio (Deboorah) Oliver of Houston; her sisters, Doris Madden of San Diego; Nancy Oliver of San Diego; Martha Jane (William) Bostic of Beaumont; Christi (Jessie) Bowie of Austin; Rowena Jackson of Beaumont; Miechee Oliver of Beaumont; her sister-in-love, Evelyn Oliver of Houston; her brothers, James Oliver of Dallas; Robert (Judy) Oliver of Arlington; Gregory (Claudia) Oliver of Houston; Rodney Oliver; her cherished grandchildren, Gavin Oliver, Ori Oliver and Finley Oliver of Houston; and a host of loving nephews, nieces and friends.

Join the family in celebrating the life of an angel both now and forever with a memorial service on Friday, November 16 at Broussard’s Mortuary, 2000 McFaddin Avenue at 6:30 PM, and a homegoing celebration on Saturday, November 17 at New Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1597 Hillebrandt Road at 11:00 AM in Beaumont, Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1597 Hillebrandt Road, Beaumont, Texas 77705 or Charlton Pollard Class of 1970, P.O. Box 13064, Beaumont, Texas 77726-3064.

Our condolence to the Family: God well knows the pain we suffer and he cares. Exodus 3:7; 1Peter 5:7 Look forward to the future with confidence, Acts 24:15 says, ...”there is going to be a resurrection...”.
