C.B. Isbell

April 14, 1938 - July 9, 2017

C.B. Isbell, 79, of Bevil Oaks, died Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Vitas Hospice, The Woodlands, Texas. He was born on April 14, 1938, to Gertrude Daws Isbell and Robert Isbell, in Sherman, and was a United States Army veteran. On December 10, 1965, he married Margaret Cross. C.B graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Police Science from Sam Houston State University. After 42 years, he retired as a Trooper for the Department of Public Safety. He currently worked as a Deputy Security Officer for the U.S. Marshall Service.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Isbell; nephew, Lonny Johnson and his wife, Michelle, of Huntsville; great-nephew, Jonathan Edwards of Bevil Oaks; great-nieces, Lori McBunch and Jennifer Moore; nieces, Billie Langford of Tom Bean, Kathy Walker of Sherman, and Sandy Smith of Cherry Mound; and several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Jo Watkins and her husband, Keith; and nieces, Janet Hawkins; and Betty Rush.

A gathering of Mr. Isbell’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at First Baptist Church, 765 6th Street, Sour Lake. A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 13, 2017, at White Mound Cemetery, 1201 White Mound Cemetery Road, Sherman.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Sour Lake Building Fund, P.O. Box 537, Sour Lake, Texas 77659.

I knew C.B. when I worked in Beaumont in the late 70's and early 80's. C. B. was always friendly and interesting to be around. I am saddened to hear of his passing.
