C.J. Schexnaider, Jr.

September 24, 1928 - January 19, 2018

He was born on September 24, 1928, in Franklin, Louisiana; to Eugenia LeBlanc Schexnayder and Cornelius Joseph Schexnayder, Sr.

 

C.J. was a United States Navy veteran. He was a longtime resident of Nederland. C.J. loved hunting and fishing. He was active in the community and served on the Nederland Planning and Zoning Commission. He was a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus and held various other titles. He loved to volunteer at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. In 1985, C.J. retired from Gulf Oil after working thirty-five years as a Maintenance Superintendent. He loved his vegetable garden and would give family and friends the produce.

 

Survivors include his wife of seventy years, Alzire “Maggie” Schexnaider; children, Linda Schexnaider Choate and her husband, Gerald; Craig Schexnaider and his wife, Charla; Donald Schexnaider and his wife, Cynthia; and Darlene Schexnaider Johnson; grandchildren, Gerald Choate, Jr. and his wife, Sherrie; Kevin Choate and his wife, Amber; Caty Schexnaider; Elizabeth Schexnaider; Virginia Johnson; and Alexander Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Ciarra Choate, Austin Choate, and Kaylee Choate. Also, his brothers and sisters of Arnaudville, Louisiana, Neva Ducote; Eddie Schexnaider and his wife, Stella; Audrey Miller and her husband, Ernest; Jim Schexnaider and his wife, Helen; Marie Stelly and her husband, Lionel; and Earl Schexnaider and his wife, Brenda. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Calvin Schexnaider; sister, Doris Hollier; and infant son, James Schexnaider.

 

A gathering of Mr. Schexnaider’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Monday, January 22, 2018, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 211 Hardy Avenue, Nederland, with his interment following at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.

My dad, Edward Orgeron, worked at the Gulf with Mr. Schexnaider and always thought a lot of him. Dad is 94 years old now and lives in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Dad is unable to come in for the services, but he wants to extend his condolences to the Schexnaider family. God bless
