Carlo Busceme III

April 6, 1952 - September 22, 2017

Carlo Busceme III, 65, of Beaumont, died Friday, September 22, 2017. He was born on April 6, 1952, in Beaumont, to Charlene Fertitta Busceme and Carlo Joseph Busceme, Jr.

Carlo Busceme III had a magnetism that drew in people from every walk of life. The outpouring of love that we have seen since his passing is a testament to this. His beautiful personality created bonds of friendship that lasted from early childhood throughout his life. At each stage of his journey he has continued to develop and nurture lasting friendships. Fresh out of college, his first foray into the business world was the creation of Carlo’s Restaurant and it was his personality that made it such a success. Carlo’s hospitality permeated the restaurant and created a unique atmosphere that drew in people for many years. Many of the people with memories of Carlo are connected to the time they spent with him at the restaurant.

After he sold the restaurant he went to work at Texas Coffee Company and worked his way through every department until his father retired and he became president. His dad often joked that they both began their time at Texas Coffee Company sweeping the docks before progressing to the presidency. Besides his many responsibilities as president, one of the most important things that Carlo contributed was formulating many of the most popular TexJoy spice blends. Through his diligent leadership, the company has maintained integrity and social responsibility. When many companies look for ways to cut corners, a superior level of quality was never sacrificed under his leadership.

Carlo devoted his time and wisdom to many organizations including Sabine Area Restaurant Association, Sales and Marketing Executives Club, Magnolia Cemetery, Southeast Texas Arts Council, The Symphony of Southeast Texas, The Art Studio, Inc., The Art Museum of Southeast Texas, Beaumont Community Players and many more over the years. And, one walk around his home would show the scope of his support towards the local art community with his extensive collection.

There was never a stranger, never a person who Carlo couldn’t connect with. His capacity for empathy and compassion guided his every interaction, with employees, with fellow board members, with the server at a restaurant. Wherever or whenever you met him you were blessed with his undivided attention, respect, and enthusiasm.

Carlo was a loving and devoted son, brother, father, uncle, and cousin. He was lovingly dedicated to his parents and to his son, Carlo, and his daughter-in-law, Larena. He was the person that every family member turned to for advice, support and especially laughs.

Carlo was a faithful Catholic who attended daily mass and was a weekly adorer in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at St. Anne Church. His faith sustained him and challenged him throughout his life. He continued to study and grow in his spiritual life. Many of his friends and family will always remember his passionate discussions and perpetual striving for knowledge.

Carlo attended St. Anne Catholic School and graduated from Msgr. Kelly Catholic High School in 1970. He graduated from Lamar University in 1974.  But he continued to feed his thirst for knowledge in many fields throughout his life.  He cultivated his skill as a pianist and expanded his musical abilities by learning other instruments.  He took up painting and quickly filled his studio with his art projects.  He took classes, went to workshops, attended seminars and lectures.  He was interested in everything, never limiting himself.

The smile on his face and the light in his eyes lifted the spirits of all those around him. The best way for us to honor our memory of Carlo is to strive to follow his example.  The world will be a better place if we are all a little like Carlo Busceme III.

Carlo is survived by his son, Carlo J. Busceme IV and his wife, Larena; parents, Charlene and Carlo J. Busceme, Jr.; brothers, Anthony Paul Busceme, Sr. and his wife, Karie; and Gregory Joseph Busceme, Sr. and his wife, Sheila; sister, JoRita Busceme Lyle and her husband, Steve; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of Mr. Busceme’s family and friends will begin at 4:00 p.m., with a Christian Vigil at 6:30 p.m., Monday, September 25, 2017, at Broussard’s, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 6825 Gladys Avenue, Beaumont, with his interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77704; Art Studio Inc., 720 Franklin Street, Beaumont, Texas 77701; Department of Art, Lamar University, P.O. The world was a better place because Carlo was in it.. He was a loving caring friend. My father fell ill and missed morning mass a few days in a row. Carlo called to check on my parents and sent a personal note to them at home to let them know how much they were missed at church. His small example of love touched my parents hearts. Thank you Carlo for being the loving friend you were. God Bless all the Busceme family my prayers are with you.

I am so sorry Carlo has left us. He was a shinning light in this world. He will be greatly missed. I grew up with him as a friend to my brother Mike. Our family's are tied together in lots of ways. We share cousins without being cousins. This world will be a differant place without him. Dear Lord keep him with you and be with his family and friends through this. We love you Carlo and already miss you.

I am just do sorry to hear about Carlo. I remember being at the beach and Carlo always treated me like I was o e of his cousins. Although we have cousins in common, we were not cousins, but that didn't matter. He always treated me like part of the family. The world has lost a great man, and he will be truly missed.

Many happy memories of his restaurant, and how his personality and hospitality permeated the dining experience. It was our favorite place as a young married couple, living in Old Town. Always enjoyed visiting with him in the years following. Beth and I send our love and prayers to the Buscemes. Wish we could join in the celebration of his life and faith, and his contribution to the common good in Beaumont.

Lon and Tiffany Nickles (Frank, Joseph and Grace)

Our hearts are truly saddened. Our family was lucky enough to call Carlo friend and neighbor for many years. He was absolutely one of the kindest and gentlest people we have ever known. Each year he would walk across the street and bring our kids a Christmas gift. After he moved, he would still come by each Christmas...it was a special time we all looked forward to. In 2008 when our Christmas cards went out, there was a new addition to our family. A month later there was Carlo, with an extra present for our little girl. He brought so much joy and happiness to this word, and it will certainly not be the same without him in it. We are praying for all the family; asking for God's comfort during this unexpected journey. Will we treasure our memories with Carlo.

Bobby Broussard

Carlo was a good friend to my brother, Andrus Broussard who had worked with him at TexJoy. I remember that smile every time I talked to him. May he rest in peace and he will be in our prayers.

Dear Busceme family, so sorry to hear about your loss. Carlo was such a kind person and our memories of him always include his contagious smile. Knowing that he spent time in adoration with our Eucharistic Lord, we hope that you will find consolation contemplating that he stored up treasures in heaven, “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be”. Mathew 6: 20-21 Yours in Christ, Mark, Carrie and family.

Our Profound Sympathy to Carlo's Family, My husband and I are deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of our precious Carlo. I have known Carlo since we were both 19 years old and Parkdale Mall had just opened. Carlo worked at The Ranch and I at a small boutique. I knew from our first meeting that he was a bright, warm, intelligent and funny young man. We began a fun greeting for each other as we'd cross paths in the mall....I would say, "Ciao Crazy Carlo!" and he'd reply with, "Ciao Loony Leah!" Over the past 40 years we continued that happy tradition always with a smile and hug. We were so proud when he opened "Carlo's" and enjoyed countless wonderful meals there. Carlo was always the perfect host and welcomed my mother, Joy, like family. Occasionally I would sit beside the pianist and sing. What a wonderful unique atmosphere he created.....everyone loved to go to "Carlo's!" Anyone meeting Carlo for the first time could sense his loving spirit and 'joie de vivre'! The twinkle in his eye explained his special personality which touched everyone around him. Carlo was a Gentleman and a gentle man. Carlo's loving family and traditions were evident to everyone who knew him. He reflected this love to all and loved his fellow man as his brother as we are commanded to do. His family was his pride and joy, especially Carlo and Larena. He lived his personal and business life with integrity, honestly and always care for others. I believe that Carlo completed his mission on earth and set an example for the rest of us to aspire to. I was honored to be his friend and have the pleasure for my husband, Steve to know and love him as well. What a glowing tribute to Carlo that he left behind so many friends who cherished him. So many lives touched for the better. His legacy is one of complete love for us.....what a gift! Carlo, I will miss seeing you around at lunch, dinner, and at the Symphony. My heart was not ready to say goodbye. I was so happy that you were able to finally visit Italy although I know you are now enjoying the beauty of Heaven in the arms of Our Eternal Father. May God Bless Each Family Member and Please Know Our Love and Prayers Will Be With All of You In The Difficult Days to Come. With Love, Leah & Steve Gomez
