Carolyn Willis

December 12, 1945 - August 31, 2019

Carolyn Frances Willis, 73, of Nederland, died Saturday, August 31, 2019. She was born on December 12, 1945, in Orange, to Mabel Wade Cagle and Clarence Carlton Cagle.

Carolyn was born in Orange, Texas, and grew up in the Cove, attending elementary school there. Her family moved to Bridge City where she attended and graduated from Bridge City High School. After high school Carolyn attended Lamar University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree and master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. Carolyn was employed by Nederland Independent School District where she worked for thirty-six years teaching biology, advanced biology, and chemistry. She served as the Head of Science Department for many years. Carolyn was selected Teacher of the Year in 1979 and received the Lamar Medal of Excellence from the Nederland Masonic Lodge in 1991.

Survivors include her husband, Don Willis, of Nederland; sons, Mark Willis, of Long Beach, California and Scott Willis, of Port Arthur; sister, JoAnn Gonzales and her husband, Mike, of Granbury; brother, Jerry Cagle and his wife, Loretta, of Bridge City; sisters-in-law, Sherry Johnson, of Irving and Melanie Shelton and her husband, Raymond, of Big Sandy; brother-in-law, B. J. Willis and his wife, Jean, of Trinidad; and mother-in-law, Dorotha Willis, of Big Sandy.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Billy Cagle; and father-in-law, Dale Willis.

A gathering of Mrs. Willis’ family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 9, 2019, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at Broussard’s, Nederland, with her interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
