Clover McKey

Clover J. McKey, 91, of Nederland, died Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at The Medical Center of Southeast Texas, Port Arthur. She was born to Laurence Ballard and Russell Cart, on March 29, 1928, in Beaumont.

Clover had a profound love of learning and of teaching. She graduated with a master’s degree in chemistry from Lamar University and taught chemistry in Nederland Independent School District for over thirty years. She loved her students and enjoyed hearing of their successes in life.

She was a dedicated Christian and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was very active in her church and taught Sunday school classes up until the time when her Alzheimer’s disease no longer allowed it. She still loved being in church, even when she could no longer comprehend the words in her Bible or understand what the pastor was saying. She simply sat in respectful silence. Clover is no longer silent. She is rejoicing in heaven with her Savior.

She also enjoyed reading, sports, air shows and traveling. She spent many happy times in Big Bend National Park and Colorado with husband Doug and her grandsons Grant and Drew. They went hiking, fishing, horseback riding and exploring. For her grandsons, those memories will never fade.

Survivors include her husband of seventy years, Douglas McKey, of Nederland; son, David McKey and his wife, Lori; grandchildren, Grant and Drew McKey, all of Austin; niece, Marilyn Weller and her husband, David.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Melba Heiselbetz.

The McKey family would like to give special heartfelt thanks to Charlie and Caroline Wells, Preston Parks and the late Lois Parks for their selfless caring for Doug and Clover over the past several years. There are special rewards in heaven for those who have given so much of themselves to others in the ways they have. Thank you all most sincerely.

A gathering of Mrs. McKey’s family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with her funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1315 South 27th Street, Nederland. Her interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.

Although I haven't seen them in many years, Aunt Clover and Uncle Doug hold very special places in my heart. I have very fond memories of them and cherish the time that I did get to spend.
Aunt Clover the heart knows no distance.
