David Stanley Griffin

David Stanley Griffin, 89, of Nederland, died Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at home surrounded by his family. He was born September 2, 1931, in Port Arthur, to Vida Madge Nordyke Griffin and Joe Bailey Griffin.

David was a family man that was true to his word. He was the backbone of the family and someone whom his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren looked up to. David had a gift of being able to fix or build anything; he was a jack-of-all-trades. He kept everyone on their toes not only with reminders of manners and safety, but also with his witty sense of humor, jokes and little jingles. David was a Godly man and a very active member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Nederland. He was one of the original members of Wesley and he held several church office positions over the years. One of those many positions was working with the youth group at the church. He was their official bus driver on trips and with it holds many special memories for those involved. David was an active member of the Methodist Men’s organization and a regular attendee of his Sunday school class the Reveler’s. He was a member of the Mid County Evening Optimist club and held several officer positions.   There are countless wonderful memories from Heritage Festivals on down.   David loved the outdoors and was a Boy Scout. He shared his knowledge and skills of the outdoors by being a Scout Master and earned the level of Brother-Hood in the Order of The Arrow. David served in the military as a teacher and mechanic in the Air Force. His love of teaching and sharing knowledge was evident throughout his life.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Eula Faye Hawkins Griffin;

Children: Cindy Griffin Minter; Carol Griffin Bass and Husband Raymond; Bobby Griffin and wife Kelli

Grandchildren: Christy Minter Boudreaux and husband Cameron; David Bass and wife Alba; Hannah Bass Chavez and husband Salvador; Jenna Griffin Crump; Rob Griffin and Ryan Griffin

Great Grandchildren: Corbin & Caitlyn Boudreaux; Lincoln, Hudson, Owen & Nolan Bass; Francesca & Santino Chavez; Kayleigh & Amelia Crump

Brother Jack Nordyke Griffin and wife Pebble; Sister-in-law Betty Jane Griffin

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Bailey Griffin, Jr.; and grandson, Little Max Minter.

A gathering of Mr. Griffin’s family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with his funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 28, 2021, at Broussard’s, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
