Dorothy Lovett

January 13, 1933 - December 6, 2019

Dorothy Gwendolyn Baker Lovett, of Beaumont, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 6, 2019. Dorothy was the last of ten children born to Dave Casino Baker and Leila Hinson Baker on January 13, 1933, in Camden, Texas. She attended elementary and Intermediary school in Camden, and High School in Chester, Texas. Dorothy met Raymond Lovett, Sr in 1947 and they married January 6, 1951. Their marriage spanned over 68 years and they were blessed with three children, Raymond Lovett, Jr., Mark Baker Lovett, and Lela Lovett Parrish. Dorothy attended college at Sam Houston State University and Lamar University, where she completed a degree in Elementary Education at the age of 20 and immediately went to work, for then, South Park ISD. Her 33-year teaching career traversed through Pietsch Elementary (South Park ISD), Terrell Park Elementary, and Amelia Elementary (Beaumont ISD). After her retirement in 1989 she worked at Head Start as a Pre-school Teacher and did some substitute teaching with Beaumont ISD. Dorothy ended her career as she started it, as a loving committed educator of little minds. She remembered every student she taught and could tell you about them and their families in detail many years later.

Dorothy was a member of North End Baptist Church where she served in the children’s ministries. Dorothy was a caregiver for all. She wanted to know if you knew Jesus, where you came from, and who your family was. She often asked people “Are you a Christian?” if they answered “no” she would tell she would pray for them. She cared for so many people over the years, too many to list, and she loved them all. After retirement she cared for her much-treasured grandchildren Gentry and Bailey. She was a devoted daughter, spouse, mother, daughter in law, sister and sister in law and aunt. Her family was an extension of herself and she was selflessly dedicated to them all.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Leila Baker; her stepmother, Ada Baker, spouse, Raymond Lovett, Sr; sisters, Georgia, Jimmie, Billie, Jackie, Flickie, and Punkie; brothers, W.C and Dave Baker; and numerous nieces and nephews. Survivors include her sister, Bettye Platt of Lufkin, Texas; sons, Raymond Lovett, Jr. of Beaumont, Texas and Mark Baker Lovett of Miami, Florida; Daughter, Lela Lovett Parrish her husband, Charles Dwayne Parrish, of Beaumont, Texas; granddaughters, Gentry Lovett of Beaumont, Bailey Blanchard and her husband, Charles Michael Blanchard, of Beaumont, Texas, and Rachel Townsend and her husband, Matthew Townsend, of Kountze; grandson, Matthew Parrish and his spouse, Gina Parrish of Vail, Colorado; and great-grandchildren Blythe Blanchard, Tobyn Townsend, and Noah Townsend.

Mrs Dorothy was a treasured friend and inspiration! I am honored that she gave me her patriotic teaching jumper, which Mom re-made into a skirt and collared t-shirt and I proudly wear each July! Such wonderful memories!!

This Precious Lady was my 2nd grade teacher at Tyrrell Park Elementary. Fond memories of her and being my favorite of them all for the 6 years I attended. My Deepest and Sincerest Condolences go out to her Family.
