Dorothy “Dottie” Mae Smith, 83, of China, passed away peacefully on Friday October 23, 2020, surrounded by her daughters. Dottie was born in Vernon, Alabama, to Eddie Mae Hoadley on February 12, 1937. She moved to Texas in 1956 and met her husband of nearly 30 years Frederick “Fred” Allen Smith, Sr. prior to his passing in 1986. Together they had 3 beautiful children, Frederick “Ricky” Allen Smith Jr, Diana Faye Allen and Jeanine Denise Klages.

Dottie loved cooking, quilting, crocheting, garage sales, gambling, Mickey Mouse, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, and Betty Boop. She loved to be called her nickname “Baby Ray” and visit with her family in Mississippi as much as she could.

Survivors include daughters, Diana Allen and husband, Monte, of Bridge City and Denise Klages and husband, Kirk, of China, Texas; grandchildren, Jeremy Klages and his wife, Dana, of China, Texas; Tiffany Spivey of Nederland, Texas; BreAnn Klages of Rogers, Arkansas; Dylan Klages and his wife, Taylor, of China, Texas; Alisha Tamez and her husband, Hector, of Bridge City, Texas; great-grandchildren, Tyler Spivey, Alyssa Klages, Caleb Spivey, Zeke Tamez and Parker Klages; a host of nieces, nephews and other close family members; former husband of several years and loving companion until the end, John Richardson; and Pomeranian, Misty.

She is proceeded in death by her mother, Eddie Mae; husband, Fred; son, Ricky; brother, Lawrence Ray Hoadley; grandson, Keith Spivey; and other loved ones.

A special thank you to Linda and Kelly at Yaya’s House for caring for our mother for the past 19 months.

A gathering of Mrs. Smith's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary recited at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 245 West Highway 90, China. Her interment will follow at China Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, P.O. Box 38, China, Texas 77613.

    What a beautiful lady! I have so many great memories I cherish with her and all of her family, I was blessed to become a part of! She played a pivotal role in the happiest time of my life! I will miss her dearly until we reunite! ❤
